If you use one of those small hand pumps that fit the top of a 1 qt jug, I find that I microwave the oil before putting it in. Just enough that it feels barely warm to the touch. Makes the manual pumping a lot easier.

Slant6, I did mine today and also found just over 2qts drained out. I put all 3 new qts in.

Makes me scratch my head, how many miles were on your car? For some reason I was only able to get 2 3/4 in

I changed mine after allowing the car to cool down from using it earlier in the day. I did the change without lifting to be sure it was level. The fill & drain plugs are not too difficult to get at. loosen the fill plug first so the fluid does not rush out and make a mess. Just fill it back up until it starts to run out and install the fill plug. Peter

All right I'll bite, how did you fit under your car without lifting it? Hole in the floor? Nickname of Gumby?

When I had my C6, I changed my diff fluid. At the time, the owners manual said to do several figure 8's when done. Is this still necessary with the C7?

That's what I have always done for my vehicles with standard LSDs. The objective is to get the fresh fluid into the clutch packs.

If you have an eLSD, it probably isn't as important (if at all), since the eLSD functions as a open differential until the computer tells it otherwise.

However, I am old school with my maintenance methods and even with the eLSD, I still would do a few figure 8's, even if doing so isn't necessary.

Red08, You only have to do the figure-8's if you use regular diff-fluid and then add the additive( I believe 2 4oz containers.
The AC\Delco 10-4034 fluid is all-in-one fluid and does not required the figure-8's to mix it.

That old figure 8 deal was created for the dealership service departments after GM changed the fluid to a one part (pre-mixed) vs the previous two part fluid in mid-2007. The reason was to work the new one part fluid into the clutch plates, so the customers who complained about differential chatter, wouldn't hear any chatter as they left the dealer's driveway. Cars coming off the factory floor in late 2007, never had the chatter problem, but the legend still lives on.

Amen to that! My 2015 Stringray was pretty clear in that area, but my current GS has all kinds of crap in the way. I couldn't get a good angle on a conventional gravity-fed arrangement and ended up using a pump to get the fluid installed. PITA, and would probably have a trusted dealer do the job if necessary again, which I doubt will happen. I used the stock GM fluid.

I just finished doing the differential fluid change on our `19 GS. Bought 3 quarts of the GM #88862624Dexron LS Gear Oil and a fluid transfer pump. Raised the car on a QuickJack and spent about one hour for the entire job. Getting to the top (fill) plug is a PITA!! Finally had the best luck using a 3/8 drive ratchet with a 3" extension, no wobble-sockets.
I got out about 2-1/8 quarts and put 3 full quarts back in.

Thanks for the information in this thread.

The figure 8 thing is/was not only recommended by GM.

Some GT500's had the rear differential groan issue during slow tight turns, (and maybe other Mustangs as well with LSDs). Anyway, Ford had the same guidelines to do a series of figure 8's in both directions after changing the rear differential fluid or adding more friction modifier to these older GT500 LSD's, (2007 to 2012 or so). I don't know about later models of the GT500.

I had the rear differential groan in the 2010 GT500 I once owned. I changed the fluid to RP Max-Gear; did the figure 8's, no more groan.

If you don't mind, what was the cost breakdown? Did you get your transmission fluid changed too? I'm getting ready to do the differential and transmission fluid change at my next oil change and curious what I can expect from my dealer.
THANKS!

I just drained mine today in my base 2019. It's maybe 50 deg and I just drained it anyway. My thinking is warm thinner oil will come out a little quicker. So my plug is out and it will drain over night. In a previous car my secret for installing the oil is to put it in the micro wave. I warm it just enough that I can feel it is above room temp. This really helps ease the effort needed w/ that little hand push pump in the top of the qt container.

Getting same maintenance done as soon as I get it out of hibernation

2016 with 28,500 miles

...May not need to put it in storage next year as we are looking to move from out of control Portland Oregon to Florida.

THANKS!
The three services were around $495.00. I did not have my transmission fluid replaced. My A8 is shifting good, and I have a Range device.

I did this again yesterday. Last year I changed it @ 1200 miles on my ZR1 and it came out kinda dark. Yesterday I drained it expecting it to look kinda golden looking and it wasn't. Not as dark and yucky as the first time but still looked kinda crap. This is with my car @ 3200 miles so 2k mileage on the first swap. I might have to do it again next spring and see how the fluid looks when I drain it a 3rd time.
