Default Engine coolant fan

What causes engine coolant fan to continue running after the car is shut off(doesn't cut off even after extended period of time). I checked the coolant fluid it's ok. Any info is greatly appreciated. I have a 2016 Stingray.

Define Extended Period of Time. 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes???? The short answer it is programmed to do that under certain conditions. If it runs for more than 20 minutes that might be considered an indicator of a problem, not with the fan running per se but with what is causing it to run that long.

It should only run a short time...

It runs continuously while I'm driving and when I shut it off, It ran for 30 minutes and then I just unhooked the battery cause it never cut off, I left it over night and cranked it again this morning and immediately the fan came on and stayed on while running and when I turned engine off.

As mentioned it should be thermostatic ... only during the summer and only when I hammer it for a spirited drive does it stay on, but only for a short time until it reaches whatever temp trigger it needs to on cool down ... and I live in Florida ... God’s Kitchen

That is a failsafe mode if the ECU sees an open or shorted engine coolant temperature sensor.
