I went for a drive and after stopping at a traffic light, I accelerated spiritedly. The car is a 2016 C7 Z51 A8. I was in Automatic/Sport mode. As the car was shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear, I saw a message appear on the MID in yellow with the following text "Performance Still Active". The message only appeared for about 2 seconds.
That is the puppy mode. The car thinks you wants to drive fast and play around. It will keep the revs up higher to allow you to get into the power band faster. When it sees you were just teasing, it reverts back to normal after a few boring seconds.
Maybe I got my acronym incorrectly, But essentially yes. It is the area within the Tachometer that shows different things depending on what you have selected.

it is automatically invoked if one is a bit aggressive driving. The transmission shifts more aggressively, and the engine revs higher.
I agree. My 2014 A6 displays the same message at times. If after the message displays you just use normal throttle, it will return back to regular shifting patterns after a short period of time.
Transmission Shift Mode − Paddle Shift Automatic
. Adjusts to either a smoother or firmer shift.
. Track – Performance Algorithm Shift (PAS)
recognizes aggressive cornering, heavy braking, and high acceleration to select and hold lower gears when not using paddles.
