See, “Apple CarPlay and Android Auto” under “Phone” in the infotainment manual.
In summary, you download Android Auto on to your phone, plug it in to the car, select "projection" on the Infortainment screen and you are off and running. The display on the Infotainment screen will not be as your phone screen, but similar in function.

^^^ What Elk said. The phone must be connected by USB.

When using Android Auto for nav, use the radio **** that selects channels to zoom in and out on the map. Discovered it by accident, but very cool feature.
Also you need to download "Android Auto" from the Google app store. (it's free).
Then you are probably going to have to configure the phone to transfer files when connected by USB, and set all sorts of permissions...
It's not hard. It's best to do the setup when the car is parked, and the parking brake is set. (yes, it looks for that the first time...) After I set it up, I just plug in the phone, and it works.
Also, download WAZE app. It's better. It really is...
I sometimes just have my Note Android in the car and it connects to music, calls, and text just fine without cable... if you want the whole thing and other apps, phone must be connected by USB cable

I think I heard that AA is, or will soon be, just a default app therefore not necessary to download app. Maybe that's Android 11. You don't need to configure it to transfer files by USB for AA to work although you will often be asked to allow access as in general, connecting a USB data cable will cause the phone to ask for permission. AFAICT AA doesn't need to transfer files. The permissions necessary to use AA will be prompted for when you start the app. You should only be asked once (or if you ever uninstall then reinstall AA).
Not you can pinch to zoom the map just like you can on the phone and I guess you can use the menu button for the same effect. You will then see a "Recent" button to tap to get back to normal viewing.
When driving, you can search for nearby gas stations and restaurants, etc by voice. You activate this either by tapping the microphone button or holding down the "push to talk" button on your steering wheel. If you just push and don't hold it down you'll get the standard C7 voice search.
Note you can also engage the parking brake, say at a stop light, to search by typing in something.
