I have a 2017 GS. I have never had an iPhone but contemplating the switch. My kids iPhone seems to sync with my infotainment easier than the Auto play. Has anybody been in the same position?
I also have an Alexa auto and it seems to compete with my android for control of the system.
Thanks
Wade

I think it is time for me to be assimilated to the iPhone conspiracy!
My Android is several years old so maybe that is why it connects slower. Does the iPhone still have to be tethered for the phone to project on to the screen?

I've had a couple of iPhones and still have an iPod and iPad but I never had an Apple Computer, always been a PC/DOS/Windows guy.
iPhones are ok but they have their own limitations/problems (Google them) and are designed to integrate w/the entire Apple line. So, you only get the best out of them if you drink the kool-aid and buy all of the rest of Apple gear.
I switched back to Android when Apple kept coming out w/new iPhone models which then made my iPhones (a 4 and 5) obsolete for which they discontinued support.
I don't bother trying to connect my phone to any of my cars but, when I tested the connection in my C7 w/my Motorola moto g7 (a really cheap Android phone), it connected quickly w/no problems and no drop offs. The audio is also better when I use the phone but I'm just to lazy to bother w/it.
I actually just listen to my iPod w/non-blue tooth ear phones plugged into my ears when driving w/the top down. It's very old school but I can listen to the music I like w/o commercial interruption and no technological knowledge or more expensive phones/devices required. LOL!!!
Understand that once you switch to an iPhone you are inside Apples "walled garden", which comes with a lot of pro's and con's.
IMHO... The biggest pro is Apple products work with Apple products. The biggest con's is once inside Apples walled garden it is difficult to leave if you ever decide to go a different direction and you pay more for similar apps and hardware.
I'm not advocating for either position, just pointing out what I see as plus and minus. I own several companies and one of the perks is I supply my employees with phones, and they can choose between Apple and Android so I see both sides. Good luck

this is true. As a recent Switcher to IPhone I have noticed this. CarPlay is definitely smoother on our cars than android auto. I do miss Android sometimes. Apple is kinda lame with their creating a problem and then offering a solution bs. No headphone jack. Here you go guys now you can spend 250 dollars for AirPod pros. 64 gb base Storage in 2020 smh. But we offer cloud services.
but their products work pretty well most of the time. Everything is a compromise

Yes; you still need the USB connection to project. Only a few manufacturers offer wireless CarPlay or AA today.
Your kids phones aren't connecting easier; it's simply faster. Remember that Apple CarPlay is embedded into the Apple operating system.
Android Auto is an app that isn't going to launch until you connect the USB cable. I think there will always be a bit of a delay launching the app. Just make sure you have the latest update from the Google Play Store.
You should ditch the Amazon Echo Auto as well. I think it's primarily for vehicles without Bluetooth for those with Bluetooth for phone use only. Just install Amazon Music on your device and it will be available in Android Auto.

Do you know about what percentage of your employees choose Apple and what percentage choose Android?
Everyone has there own opinion. But my wife and I have had iPhones for along time. I use my phone in my 19Z06 and my Toyota 4Runner and have no issues. I use them for Navigation and my Apple Music. I never wanted Android phone. Some people like them and I know some people have switched from them to a iPhone and said they were more happy with the iPhone. I stick with what works.
My S8 connects fine too. The bluetooth function is instant when I start the car (same with my new Tacoma now too). I had to get a new cord to get the Android Auto to project to the screen. The one with the phone to charge doesn't work (in the Vette or the Tacoma). A $12 cord (USB type C, or something like that) and it now works flawlessly.
In my 19 base Stingray my old Samsung 7 connects just fine every time I start the car. I am not a big phone user so all I know is that calls work just fine as do podcasts. The podcasts i find using the phone screen but the sound comes through the car audio. To use the phone nav I have to connect a cord. I ran a cord under the console top panel to the usb connection in the center console storage area. I have the other end coming out from under the panel near the front so it's easy to connect to the phone. It would be nice if nav worked via bluetooth so I could skip the cable but it's not that big a deal.
I've been a diehard android guy for quite a while and just decided to try out the iPhone 12 max pro thinking that if I don't like it, I'll give it to my son and go back to an android. So far, I really like the iPhone and have had absolutely no regrets. The speed of the operating system is crazy fast and the battery life is amazing compared to my LG V20 that I just retired even after putting a new battery in the LG.
I have a 2014 and have been an IPhone user since giving up on Blackberry way back when. Currently I have the IPhone 12 Pro and it connects as soon as I start the car (as did my previous iPhones).

I think all the new phones work perfect.
I have the new android S20+ 5g and it is instant connection too. Phone, texts and music. I never use any of it because most of my trips are under 20 minutes on the xway.
