Default Wiring Splice

I need to "chop" into my wiring to add my satellite tracking device. it only uses 2 wires, + and- on at all times. They usually put them under the left kick panel. Anyone here ever tap into their wiring?

I think it would be easier for you to pickup a fuse tap from O'Reilley's and just tap into one of the fuses in the back of the car for power then hide the device behind one of the plastic side panels in the back. Quick and easy to do.

But I have tapped into wires before - you just have to know which wire will be hot all the time so your tracker will work.

They Gm dealers put it behind the left kick panel and splice into the harness. I just have a newer car so the wiring is different. I have a wiring schematic but there are a million wires in a vette. I may pull it off the fuse box if accessible. I know my c5 wasnt, hidden in the passenger floor.

This is the easiest way... plus it can be undone with zero damage to the car. The C7 has a composite body with an aluminum frame, thus you have to find a suitable ground - you can't just tap into some random piece of metal for the (-) connection. Doing this in the rear gives you direct access to the battery and plenty of places to hide the unit.

I wonder if I can just tap to the battery. Is it hard to get at?

That's exactly what I did to get my +12V to the driver's area under the dash. It's actually pretty easy. There is also a ground lug under the trim panel just below the kick panel.

you can, but you must fuse that wire right off the battery. If you go the splice route, I strongly suggest NOT using solderless crimps, pinching/piercing devices or wire nuts. Solder the wires and use heat shrink tubing.

Fuse #22 is a good choice to tap into and should be a micro fuse. It's the fuse for the aux outlet and is a constant hot. I ordered different sized fuse taps from a vender on eBay for future use and a bunch of backup fuses as well. Handy to have and you never know when you'll need one.

Don't cut into a wiring harness, attach to the battery itself

Default fuse

Yea, who ever designed the rear carper on the c7 was a boob. Some guy on youtube was showing how to remove it and tore it.

Are any of the bolds that hold the amp or fuse box down grounded?
