Default Z51 Wheels

Hey everyone, ran a search and got some preliminary info. Looking to get more specific and hopefully obtain some first hand accounts.

I’m building my car and as you’d expect, traction is an issue. I’m interested in going wider both front and rears. Right now, I have the stock Z51 wheels and tires.

at a minimum, I’m replacing tires and adding what width I can. I’m simultaneously looking into wheel and tires to see if that route makes more sense. primary purpose is leisure driving, canyons, pulls, etc. I live in SoCal so summer tires are my target. I’d like to keep the wheels from sticking out but could add spats.

I have 2 main questions:

-Would you go with just new tires? If so, what’s the largest size you’ve experienced working.

-Would you go with tire and wheel combo and what sizes would you pick.

I originally thought I was going to just do tires, something like R888s or Proxys. Fronts in 265 rears in 295 or 305. I like the Z51 wheels, only reason to add wheels is for more surface area. I’m not positive how much of a difference it would make. Maybe just a good tire would do the trick.

Thanks for sharing any thoughts.

Don’t have a donation to plan for top end, will continue building the car to see what it’s capable of producing. It’s honestly more just for me to work on. I have a supercharger on it now. I’d expect to land around 900.

R888R will grip when hot but as you go up in HP .... soon nothing will , I have made a pac with myself to not go over 600 because I have seen to many people go to far and they either got tired of breaking stuff or the car was no longer fun to drive

Power is either for a specific high-performance purpose (e.g., drag, track), or bench-racing. In most instances, unless the entire car is built to tolerate the stated power level things will break if actually used. I've seen lack of traction save more than one such vehicle from destruction. When traction was improved parts ended up on the track. For the street too much power can be dangerous for many people since traction will never be up to the task.
