I've read and watched all kinds of videos on how to take off emblems. I can get the @#$% things off, but would like to clean them up and reuse them after installing stripes.
It seems everyone just puts new ones on. How and what adhesive should I put on the old ones instead of paying $120.00 for new ones? I like the chrome ones.
Also strange that the front emblem is bigger than the rear. Wonder why they are not the same size?

After cleaning the old tape off, just pick up some 3M double sided tape from your local auto parts store, cut it to shape, and reattach the emblem to the car.

It is odd the the front emblem is slightly bigger than the rear and convertible waterfall emblems which are the same.
I'd use 3M 08984 General Purpose Adhesive Remover for cleanup from old emblems and as others recommend 3M double sided emblem tape. The 08984 is great stuff, no garage should be without a can.
If you can get ALL the OEM adhesive material off without screwing them up (I never do that; I just give them to my granddaughter to paint in colorful polka-dots), of course you can do as GM and reapply them with fresh 3M adhesive of your choice. All the best.
Thanks guys. I have a spare front emblem. I'll get some 3M adhesive tape and try it out today. I'll see if I can trim it to my satisfaction. When the weather improves I'll be putting on some full length stripes and I wanted to take off the flags and reinstall. I'll let you know how it goes.
Well it was a dreary day today, so I got out my x-acto knife and put some 3M tape on my front emblem. Turned out better than I thought. Will wait for warmer weather to take off rear emblem and install stripes.

I too wonder how this slipped pasted GM's bean counters. The difference is only 1/2" - which visually, located on opposite ends of the car, is completely unnoticeable. Why couldn't the designers compromise and just have one size badge? And I say this as graphic designer who tends to sweat over small details like this.
Also odd (and slightly related) - the C7 came with chrome badges and you had to pay for the optional black badges. The C8 is the opposite, it comes with black badges but now they charge for chrome ones. However only 8% in 2020 paid for them.

The designers beat the bean counters in this rare case. The surface area of the hood is larger than the back. A larger emblem up front makes sense from a design perspective.
