After driving my 2014 c7 stingray for a week I have found a problem.car has 21000 miles, I am being told from the dealer that this is normal with this size tire.{285/30zr20} 95y. Michelin pilot super sport,The problem is when I make a sharp with the stearing wheel in almost locked position the wheels bounce crazy and feels like something is wrong with stearing mech. They also told me even the new c8's do the same thing.I have purchased 3 cars from this dealer over last few years with no problem.Any ideas.?
Agree with all above, common on C7 Corvette, thought my first car had hit a ditch or something, then found it is normal and they all have tire hop or chatter in tight turns at low speeds. I had to put a new set of tires on my car about 6 months ago, there were no Michelin run flat tires available in the 20" size so I had to get a set of Continental ExtremeContact non run flat tires. With the new non run flats, do not have any low speed tire hop whatsoever, have even went into parking lots and tried to get them to hop and they will not do it. Must be the compound the tires are made of or the fact of not having as stiff and sidewall on it as the run flats do, but bottom line, no tire hop anymore.
I have also heard that the Michelin A/S 3 run flats do not have the tire hop or chatter at low speeds, they were not available when I had to buy my tires, but are now available through TireRack.com.
When driving at slow speeds and in
very tight turns, the vehicle may
have tire chatter/hop. This is normal
and the vehicle does not require
service.
It is the result of uncompromised steering and means "performance car." Porsches, Ferraris, etc. do it as well. All season tires hop less as they are less grippy and the tire blocks do not deform as much before letting go, resulting in less judder/hop.
[QUOTE=Buttersvette;1603034559]Same here. Cup 2 chattered like crazy. I also switched to the A/S3 from the MPSS and never heard or experienced the chatter again

Exactly. Ackerman is designed so the front wheels turn different amounts. The inside wheel is going through a tighter radius than the outer wheel so, if they both are turned to the same angle, then the tires would hop/slide across the pavement. 99% of street cars have Ackerman so this sliding is eliminated but...there is some cornering power to be gained by not using a complete Ackerman correction. So cars designed for max handling often have this tire hop/slide. The grip level of the tire determines whether the hop/slide is obvious or less so.
The issue is compounded with the large 19"/20" diameter wheels and short sidewall tires, especially with the extra stiffness of runflats. While great for high speed cornering and road track use, they suck at low speed tight maneuvering and ride comfort. As soon as my OEM tires are used up, I'm going to go with non-runflats on 18's/19's to get more sidewall flexibility and quietness for long road trips and local streets.
