Ran into a small problem with my local Chevy dealer when I asked to have my IO5 module upgraded to the IO6 Navigation module. They refused to do it. What???? Said since my 2015 Stingray didn't come from factory with navigation they could not do the upgrade for me. Said they would have to order the new module through my vin number and, again, mine didn't come with it so no vin number to order from. What???? I told them I had watched a YouTube video (they probably really hate hearing that) on changing out the modules and didn't look that hard for anyone but me so I know the modules exist, not cheap either, told them that but they flat our refused to do the upgrade. Sound a little bureaucratic to me.
You can't deal with a stealership for something like that as they will have no part of doing it as you are really asking them do something to the electronics that didn't come that way and don't want the liability and could cause trouble with GM if they did. There are two companies that will program a HMI 2.5 for your specific vin number and then send you the HMI 2.5 to swap out your HMI 2.0. There are two options based on if you currently have navigation or not and it determines whether you get i0S-5 vs i0S-6
This is a post I did on the carplay......
I received my package today from MVI who sells reprogrammed HMI and Radio Modules and installed my new 2016 HMI and Radio Module on my 2014 C7 which gave me the updates maps and CarPlay. The responsiveness of the infotainment screens is so much better and being able to mirror my phone and do other things is just what I wanted. Here are some screenshots and information about the install. All 2014 – 2015 Models Please Note:
If you currently have Factory NAV; you will need to select the I06 option. When upgrading to the CarPlay/Android Auto System you are changing out your existing NAV module and adding the newer 2.5 navigation module with the CarPlay / Android Auto built in. Please contact MVI for assistance in selling your old I06 MyLink Navigation System.
Features include:
2016 CARPLAY / Android Auto Technology ( Apple /Google / Waze Mapping, texting, music, and other Carplay / Android Auto apps)
Retention of all factory features such as Performance Data Recorder ( PDR ), Drive Mode Selections / Magnetic Ride Control with PTM, Exhaust/Engine Sound Management ( NPP ), Rear Camera parking gridlines, HD Radio, Pandora, etc
Adds HD Radio if not already equipped
Activates Factory NAV Icon on the touch screen ( Purchase of I06 Upgrade above required )
Upgraded 2.5 Processor for overall faster and more responsive MyLink operating performance
O.E.M Mapping Software ( completely update-able through GM )
Enhanced Color Display with 2D or 3D mapping
Plug and Play Installation ( due to the nature of where the modules are located in the Corvette, this is an advanced time-consuming install )
All of our factory systems come with the latest MyLink software available, will add the weather/travel apps ( XM subscription required ), and will come with the latest updates and software fixes to help avoid any issues. This will save you from potential headaches of going to the dealer down the road. A tremendous value added feature which separates ourselves from the rest!
All of our factory systems come complete with everything you’ll need for your installation; including all harnessing, GPS antenna, a complete set of instructions, installation videos (if available), programming to your specific vehicle (no dealer involvement needed), and up to 15 minutes of technical support!
NOTE: Steering wheel controls will not work to Activate Siri or Google Voice when phone is plugged in for CarPlay and Android Auto. There is a voice activation button on the touchscreen or you can utilize ” Hey Siri ” or ” OK Google ” phone voice features and not touch anything. If you wish to have the steering wheel buttons retained for voice activation inside of CarPlay / Android Auto, you’ll need to call MVI to discuss the additional upgrade required to retain that feature. Steering wheel controls will function as they do currently when NOT plugged in and using CarPlay / Android Auto.

Dealerships don't do this kind of work because it's outside of their systems, IE: your VIN says "not compatible" so its not officially supported or allowed by GM. Dealerships are inflexible in this regard. However many on this forum have done this upgrade using aftermarket vendors for programming new or used GM modules.
I also would recommend Anthony with MVI, I have not purchased anything for a corvette, but several items and program work on my GMC Sierra. They have several very informative youtube videos too. Check them ou!
I bought the IO6 module from infotainment.com for my 2017 stingray and installed it myself. I am in my 70s if I can do it you can. There is a step by step video on how to do it.. A bit pricey but works great..
Honestly, a dealer would be crazy to do this. He would be modding your car and violating some rule (I imagine) with VIN and model and parts. They probably would get their butt in a sling if it surfaced that they did that.
