Default Wind Restrictor Glare Fix

I just thought I would put this out there for anyone who has had the issue of significant glare from oncoming headlights reflecting off your Wind Restrictor to your rearview mirror at night. It can be quite distracting and annoying at best and the first time I saw it it was actually kind of frightening. As I was meeting a car at night its headlights would reflect from the Wind Restrictor to the rearview mirror and make it look like there were headlights rapidly approaching from the rear as well as from the front. To fix the issue I made some small 2 to 3 mm washers from a rigid piece of plastic tubing and put them between the Wind Restrictor plastic and the mounting brackets as in the pictures. That tipped the bottom of the window restrictor up enough so that I don’t get the glare any longer and doesn’t seem to affect the function. I reused the original screws. I thought about putting the spacers on the top of the brackets and tipping the WR downward but was concerned I would get some glare from the dashboard lights. Anyway, just thought somebody else might benefit from this simple fix as I was ready to take the WR out and not use it at all. I suppose this might affect the warranty but really don’t care. I think some small plastic washers from the hardware store would work just as well.

Interesting fix. I’ve been running a Wind Restrictor in my Z06 coupe for close to a year and have not noticed any additional glare when driving at night so I wonder if it’s a result of the bracket placement. I have the lighted logo option and I’m actually considering tapping into the brake lights to see if I can get the logo to light up when I brake vs. having it illuminated through the auxiliary fuse.

Thats a great look! Thanks for your reply. I am glad hear that you have not had any problems like I did. When I first noticed this issue I did a search on the forum and found a number of people and had the same problem. Many seemed to just take the Wind Restrictor out and not use it because it was so disturbing. It really is quite disturbing when you see it for the first time. Your idea of hooking it up to the break light sounds like a great idea if you're not having trouble with reflection in the rear view mirror.

I also have my windows tinted (Fl legal limit) and I had the UV reflective film also applied to the windshield so maybe that is also helping. I'm planning to take it out again tomorrow night for a dinner date with the wife so I will watch for any glare but I haven't really noticed it yet.

If anything, the red and blue lights of the rear view mirror still catch me by surprise at night thinking a LEO is behind me.

Good Morning. I'll bet the things you mentioned are helping a lot with the reflection issue. Up here in WI they frown on tinted windows, but then the amount of sunshine we get hardly makes it worth it. Now that we're mostly retired, the wife and I are just now starting to talk about finding a place in FL for the winter. BTW I like the plate.

I'm thinking about getting a wind restrictor for highway driving with the top off. Did it make a noticeable difference? Are you still happy with the glare fix?

Hello. Thanks for your interest. I am pleased with the fix for the glare. It really made a big difference. I think it does do a fairly good job of cutting down the cockpit wind and I think I would do it again but I’m not entirely convinced it’s worth the price.

Hmm, guess I'll skip it then. I thought it might serve 2 purposes of blocking wind and blocking the dog from getting to the center console.

Thanks for the feedback!
