well I changed oil in my base C7 ,it takes at least 30 minutes for that oil to drain out ,I can imagine if you go to the dealer or quick oil change place they wait let it drain for ten minutes then stick the drain plug back in and call it good enough!

You're right, the dealer is not going to wait 30 minutes for maximum oil drainage to happen. Do it yourself and you can take your time.

They wont waist that much time and they don't care, it not their car.
They will put the plug back in when ~ 70% - 80% is drained out, as management is yelling that they have 5 more cars in line.

The Quickjack makes oil changes, all fluid changes in fact, very easy to do at home. Its satisfying doing your own changes and you know its done right. And it gives you another excuse to spend time in the garage with your car.

 

Always a Saturday morning on the QuickJack. Pop the plug, go in the house and grab a cup of coffee... Nice to know the plug or filter won't be torqued to a thousand ft lbs.

Last few times Mobil had an item as part of their rebate they were gone by the time I submitted... I don't worry about that crap anymore.

 

I drain but on my MB, I use the suction method. I don't care as much with the F250 since I can leave the pan underneath without spending inordinate amounts of time on it. Pulling the drain plug is the first thing they do so they can check the air pressure, fluid levels. I let them do all of that but you do understand that the business model is NOT about oil changes, right? It is about upselling you services. Light bulb change, transmission flushes, etc. It's my car and I don't want to wait for the last drop to come out and time it to make sure nothing drips out for 10 minutes. When I see it drips, I get sliding underneath to put the plug in. It takes me about 10 minutes to get the filter off and drain it and put it into the box for disposal. I don't think that by the time it goes from a steady stream to drops, there is 80%. Put a cup there and see how much you get. I would be surprised if there was even a cup. My car or not, I am not going to wait for 24 hours before introducing new oil. Kinda silly waste of time. I don't think that half a cup means much to anyone but Corvette owners trying to make a show of care for that special baby.

If the engine is warm and the oil flowing, especially 0W or 5W oil I don't think there is that much left when it starts a slow drip. If that few drops is going to harm that engine anything significant, I think the Corvette is not the car for me. That would be too high maintenance. Might as well get a mistress or side chick.

 

The funny thing about people that think they need to let their oil drain for hours in order to get every last drop out is the fact that there is still going to be about 10% of your oil capacity (or more) that is left inside the heads and oil passages, so you'll never get 100% of it out no matter what. And the other funny thing is that a lot of people are still changing their oil way too often anyways, so any oil that is left behind in the engine is still in perfect shape anyways (I'm talking about those guys doing their oil changes every 2000 to 3000 miles)
I follow the OLM for my changes so it's typically about every 7000 miles, and when I drain the oil I let it drain maybe 15 minutes at the most. And doing that I know that only 6 quarts comes out of my wet sump car, so about a quart of old oil is left behind. I'm ok with that.
By the way, many years ago on my C5 I checked how much more oil came out if I let it drain for a few hours, compared to 15min and it was only something like 4 ounces.

 

Did my oil change on the Z06 last weekend, first car I have owned where I could drain both plugs and oil filter without moving my drain pan more then a few inches

Short of a complete disassembly, I really don't think you are going to get that last quart (I suspect even less) out. I don't have a car that uses conventional oil so I really can't say but if you are changing it at 3000 miles, unless there is some real reason, it is total stupidity but it's their money so there it is.

I'm going to find out this year when I take it out of storage as to whether 7000 is a reality. At this point, I see the OLM being conservative according to the oil testing. Then I remembered that it was stored for 4 months so that would affect the OLM since it "ages" the oil automatically but I haven't seen that as a reality as far as the testing goes.

Even at 8 ounces, I really don't believe it is going to hurt the engine significantly. Still, you will see people here carp on about how fast the oil change places do it. Like I said, if it is that delicate a car, I can't afford it.

 

Based on my oil analysis results with my C7 (as well as my C6 and C5 before that), the OLM is very conservative and if you test the oil after going right down to 0% oil life, you'll find that the oil tests to be still in great shape. I even went a few thousand miles more on my C5 after the OLM counted down to zero and the oil still tested well. So in reality, anyone changing their oil at 50% oil life is just throwing money away
