Default oil change interval

Before I retired I was driving 100 miles a day 5 days a week. I would always hit the oil life percentage before coming close to the date on the sticker. Now I drive maybe 40 miles a week. I'm at 57% and the oil looks good but I'm coming up on the date.............which would you guys go by? Date or %?

Ignore the sticker. Follow the oil life monitor.

even if you dont drive it the monitor will reduce by 1/12 each month. Its which ever comes first "wear" or 12 months.

With the mileage you are expecting to put on the car, just go by the oil life monitor - it may hit the time limit before a mileage limit. Once you change the oil the next time, chances are you will bump up against the one year max between changes before you have to worry about the mileage.

I go by miles these days. I generally reset the oil monitor and ignore the date.

There's no expiration date on oil bottles, so follow the OLM and disregard the time stamp.

I go by my average yearly mileage. I drive my car on weekends which equals about 4-5k per year. Change the oil once a season. Synthetics are good for 10k miles so even at 5k is more than good under normal conditions. Easy to remember.

I change my oil once a year. I typically drive 3,000 to 5,000 miles per year. With those kind of miles, I don't even pay attention to the oil life monitor. I always change the oil/filter just prior to putting it to bed for the winter months.

Resetting the OLM is part of the C7 oil change process, unfortunately some dealers don't know that.

To reset your OLM, scroll down to oil life remaining on the DIC (Driver Information Center, left control on the steering wheel) and press and hold the Set/Reset button.

Change the oil, send a sample out to get analyzed. Follow their advice when you get the results back.

Why do people ignore the OLM? The engineers programmed the computer to tell you when the oil needs to be replaced - it goes by combustion events and time. From Tadge: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-wet-sump.html Not all miles are created equal so that is not a good system. The time factor is debatable but to keep your warranty you have to do it once a year per GM. An oil change costs about the same as two fill ups of gas... not exactly expensive on a car that costs over $60K. So easy to follow the OLM so that is what I do... I wish all my vehicles had this feature.

In the sealed bottle the oil is not exposed to oxygen. Just follow the OLM, simple. Don't over think this.

You use the right side of the steering wheel controls to get to the oil meter. When it comes up, you just hold the button down and it resets. I could take and post photos of each step, if you can't get it reset. But it's simply running through the menus that appear to get to the oil meter.

They're good for way more than that. One test lab advised that at 15K, the tested100% synthetic was good for at least another 5K, and to resubmit a sample then. The only way to know if the oil is good or not is if you get it tested.
The year old oil in the crankcase, with 3K miles on it? Wonder if it tested bad?

The official line from Mobil 1 is that their oil is good five years after the time stamp in an unopened bottle.
