So after 5 years I had to replace my battery. I had it installed and noticed the vent tube is not connected. The battery, as everyone knows, is a major hassle to remove so I am asking what are the effects of not having the vent tube connected?
I would be concerned of the battery venting out some of the sulfuric acid during its charging cycle. The electrolyte is very corrosive and could cause some damage. Also more importantly the fumes could pose a fire risk and health risk to you. You may be able to fish out the vent tube and reconnect it. Hope its an easy fix for you.

Hydrogen sulfide is vented trough the tube. It is flammable, highly corrosive, and poisonous. You may recall the deaths in Florida of the driver and passenger in a Porsche Cayenne from hydrogen sulfide poisoning initially thought to be carbon monoxide poisoning. It turned out to be hydrogen sulfide venting from the Porsche's battery. The battery is located in the passenger compartment under the front passenger seat.
If you are not smelling rotten eggs it is unlikely the lack of venting has done any harm but, as others noted, get it fixed immediately.
They forgot to give me the vent tube elbow when I picked up my battery and had to go back for it.
My battery is in the trunk. I would not want it outgassing by all the electronics above the battery and I use a Battery Tender in the trunk above the battery.
Can someone post a picture of where the vent is supposed to be on the H6-DLG Duralast Gold battery? I bought one a year ago and never saw a place to hook up the vent so I just went outside and see the hose sitting there not connected to anything and I don't see a place to connect it to on the battery.
