I recently received a solicitation from Koons Chevy regarding trading-in my 2016 Stingray. Cicking on their website showed the WhiteMarsh location has two 2021 C-8's ( a 2LT & a 3LT), both marked up $29K over MSRP. You were able to see the actual new car stickers, so the MSRP was clearly visible. There're plenty of dealers that'll sell you a car for MSRP, but these sales tactics really hurt the product.
Just wanted to pass this on to the membership. Guess where I won't be purchasing my next vette???
It seems that 15-30 k over is the going rate for a car sitting on a dealers lot. Alot of dealers will place an order for you at MSRP but your looking at a 8-12 month wait until it’s built and delivered. Sucks but that’s the current market. I’ve even heard of dealers buying used at MSRP and the reselling For a markup
You'll be able to buy new C8s at a discount in a few months, from select Chev. dealers. Most will sell a new one now at msrp. One member here got like -4% off MSRP on his new C8 - so deals are out there, if you know where to look.

Our local dealer is doing the same, but they are calling the cars "used" even with only 5 miles. They have two in stock. Yesterday they dropped the selling prices from $130,000 to $120,000!
Buddy of mine bought a C8.... decided he didn't like it (current owner of a ZR1 and has owned a coupe of ZO6s)..... advertised it for sale.... people came out of the woodwork.... including dealers.... he didn't lose a cent - and he traveled out of state to pick his car up.... a dealer offered the most money.

Your choice to either pay the markup or move on to a dealer that does not do that, but not many who have available C8s are selling at MSRP. Many have ADM on those units.
I feel like you in that I an not going to pay a premium for the car. I just do not have to have one that bad.
The market will correct itself in time and prices will come down. C8's will come back to reality, but it is the older models I'm more curious to see where the sticker price actually sticks. C7 Z and ZR1's are going for ridiculous prices as well.

It's not just dealers.
The Mecum auction that just finished up had a bunch of C-8's. Mostly 2020's but a couple of '21's. They all brought close to or over $100k, plus the 10% buyers fee.
Law of supply and demand. Incredibly low supply and a ton of demand.
I'll wait patiently for mine at $1k under list. It'll get here....... eventually.
Given the backlog and slow C8 production dealers asking over MSRP will be going on for awhile. If you want the newest toy you gotta pay... nothing new here.

This kind of buffoonery is nothing new. Opportunistic dealers have taken advantage of people with more money than brains for many years. Unfortunately, fools and their money are soon parted, and there appear to be enough fools available to keep those dealers doing business.

Well Carvana just offered me $5000. more then I paid for my '19 1LT Stingray with no options but A8 and black wheels. Of course I didn't pay sticker price when I bought it back In Dec of 2019.

Was not a dig at Stingray owners, I just do not follow that market as closely. Everything is going for more, it is why dealers are buying cars used and putting them back on the lot for an even higher markup. My dealer keeps asking me to sell my new truck back to them so they can re-sell it.
This is just the way it is these days and it's likely to persist into next year. Everything is in short supply. It doesn't catch up in a few months. The whole world has to catch up, and look how big the world is.
I remember years ago when I was shopping for a new Harley, a lot of dealers were marking them up a couple of thousand dollars. The dealer here in town was selling for MSRP. One day I asked the owner why he was selling for MSRP when so many other dealers were selling for more than MSRP. He told me that the demand for new Harleys will slow down at some point, and we want you to remember how we treated you. They were clearly wanting long term customers, not just make a quick buck. It will be the same for C8's at some point.
