Parked in a busy lot I got in the car to leave. The DIC announced "theft attempted". I jumped out to look for any signs of forced entry or any kind of damage but found none. The only evidence is the DIC message.
I'd appreciate any factual information on the conditions under which the theft attempted message can be generated. My mind has already generated plenty of guesses so don't need those. Maybe someone here has detailed tech knowledge of the system?
I read a thread that details the entry/engine start system components and basic operation but it does not explain the conditions necessary for the DIC to display threat attempted. (the thread can be found by searching the forums under "theft attempted").
Car is 2017 Z06 shown in my avatar.
Edit: See the thread "Theft Proof??" for details on the Immobilizer system as it applies to a C6 from March 2021 by C6ToGo.

Reason: add info
Alarm was set off by something. It could be something inside that fell to set off interior motion detector or it could be something outside that disrupted the car.

If I don't push the disable button on the dash, my windshield shade will set it off when the jets take off in afterburner. I park along an active USAF flightline. It doesn't take much vibration of something inside the car for the motion sensors to react.
my windshield shade will set it off when the jets take off in afterburner.
Same here... if the shade moves for any reason the alert pops up. This make sense since the alarm's sensors are located where the rear-view mirror mounts to the roof.
Thanks for pointing that one out. I guess the motion sensors can be permanently turned off if we wish. I'll put up with the message.
Regards
Art
No, actually, you can turn off the sensors for 1 parking job. When you start the car, the sensors are back to normal. If the passenger was remaining in the car and you need to get out and get something, turn off the motion sensor and the alarm won't go off. When you restart the car, it's back to normnal.

theres also something about how when you get out of the car, press and hold unlock on the fob for i believe 5sec to disable the alarm nonsense, so your SO or windshade or whatever is in the car cant cause an issue until the next cycle.
you could also get your windshield tinted, like i did. no more playing around with shades which i have nowhere to conveniently put in a vert to begin with =D
If a big truck, say a semi, rumbles by next to your car, the vibration the truck caused could have set off the sensitive motion sensor in the car, causing the horn to honk for a minute or so. Thus the notification on the dash when you got in the car and started the car.
I had it happen when I got out of the car at our bank. I closed the door and walked inside with my wife in the car and her Fob was at home. The alarm went off I had to use my Fob to shut it off. When I got back to the car I got THE LOOK. I make sure I disable the motion sensor when I get out if she staying in the car. YIKES!!!

I am forbidden to use auto lock. Funny story that happened with the C6. We had the top down and I parked under a tree for shade as my wife was waiting in the car. She said she had this weird vibe that something was in the tree watching her. It was a large oak snake. When she went to get out the door was locked. Instead of hitting the unlock button she went straight for the emergency release handle and of course the alarm went off. I came running out to see her standing away from the car. I, too, got the look. So to keep peace, no more auto lock. Happy wife-happy life.
I did not know about that button either. In the past, when I go to the gas station or the bank and the wife is in the car, I tell her "don't make any movements" otherwise you set off the alarm, she hated that. Now I know !!!
In addition to leaving the wife in the car while at the gas stations I've made the mistake of jacking the car to do brake work without unlocking it. Like @geewez said there is some kind of tilt / vibration sensor in addition to the interior motion sensor.
I too turned off Auto Lock because the car kept locking while I was cleaning it in the driveway. So I just hit the lock button on the FOB as I walk away... I like the confirmation of the lights flashing that the car is secure.
