Default Tires

So bought my car with just under 29k miles on it. I've put 5k on it since owning it. The tires are OEM tires. I thought they felt really hard as I constantly can't get traction and when turning slow the front really bounces hard like grip then loose grip. Anyway I went and had them looked at. They are 8/32nd of tread on them. I guess previous owner changed them around 25k miles or so. I mean at 35k if they were original they would be worn more than that right? What would you recommend for a new set that gets a little better traction? I thought maybe the A/S 3s.

My tires last about 5000 miles.. I can't imagine a performance tire lasting to 35k

My first pair of summer tires lasted me a whole 2 months.... I daily drive and my second set has made it less than 2 years (still enough to make it through the summer I think). Im at 20k miles (total) and will need a new pair, at least for the rear, sooner than later.

A/S3+ are great for the street and perform well in the rain. They don't need to heat up for traction like the MPSS or cup2 either plus they are a LOT cheaper. I've run them for over a year and loved them when I was stock. Now that I've put some more power to the car they don't hold as well so I'm in the process of doing wheels/tires for summer and will only run them when it gets colder but, on a stock car or mostly stock car for a nice year-round tire, those would be my choice 100%.

Check the date code on the tires if in doubt.

If your tires are the Pilot Super Sport ZP (runflats) like probably came from the factory, a proper alignment and staying off racetracks will probably give you 15k miles.
There is a date code on the sidewall, look on the Tire Rack website to see when yours were made.
If over 5 years old, they could be getting hard with a lot of tread still left.
Or, the factory tires (and some other brands) begin to lose grip below 50'F and Chevy doesn't recommend using them below 40'. They do have that stick-release thing in tight turns at low speed but it doesn't hurt anything.

What year/model is your car?

I made the swap from the OEM tires to Michelin A/S 3+ ZPs and really like the tires. I have not had any problems with traction and they handle very well. I would recommeend them for the replacement set.

A/S 3+ ZPs are really great all-year tires, especially in an area like the PNW coast where it gets down to freezing occasionally but rarely snows.

If you don't drive the car very often below 40'F (poor traction), and never below 20'F (tires can crack from just moving it) and never in snow; the Pilot Super Sport ZP tires should work well for you. Is that what you have?
Nothing is cheaper than tires you don't have to buy.

If you go with the AS3+, you can handle cold weather without problems, we've driven ours as cold as -20'F. They will work in a couple of inches or snow or slush.
But winter driving in a Corvette isn't much fun, we have the AS3+ on ours during winter but drive one of our tin cars most of the winter.
