Hello Everyone,
I have a 2017 3LT Grand Sport Convertible that suddenly started blowing hot air along with a burnt rubber smell. I took it in to a local mechanic later on that day and after testing I was told that the issue is the evaporator. He recharged the AC system and put in a stop leak product to no avail...the car stayed cold for a few hours until later that day only hot air came through the vents; he tried the same process again the next morning again with no success. The car only has about easy 30K miles on it and unfortunately the warranty expired on it in February. I spoke to the local Chevrolet dealership and they stated the approximate cost to fix this is $3500. I've heard that the entire dashboard has to be removed to fix the issue. I'm obviously very concerned about this but living in South Florida, AC is a necessity and must be fixed immediately. My question is to see if anyone else had the same issue with their C7 and what their experience was and/or if any of you have any advice for me of what I should look for before or expect before I receive the car back from the dealership. Thank you in advance!
My first thought was; buy an extended warranty from GM before taking it in, but that's out now. I believe that I would make an appeal to Chevrolet Zone Rep. before picking it up and paying. In other words, leave it at the dealership until you are certain that you will not receive credit of some type. That's what I would do. Been there done that with a Ford truck. Never hurts to appeal it above the dealership. The good news, is that now it's covered by Chevrolet for a limited amount of time. Sorry this happened to you 😢.
I believe it absolutely would, if you've not taken it in to the dealer to get fixed. The GM extended Platinum warranties are far less than $3,500.00. There's a 30 day waiting period for it to apply, and, a 1,000 miles of driving to be in effect. I'm still a couple of hundred miles on my 2017 C7's Platinum warranty becoming effective, but you can be certain that I'm not taking it in for any work until the waiting period and mileage requirements both kick in.
Lucky me...I was researching your great idea on GM's website and unfortunately found that the Platinum plan isn't available in Florida WTF! oh well, back to square one...thanks again for the advice!

There are 2 forum vendors out of state that sell them, I saved $1000 going out of state
That doesn't sound right, not being available in Florida. But, good luck in any case.👍
EDIT:
Just last week I received a solicitation from GM Corporate offering me a Platinum extended warranty plan on my 2017.. Don't know what the geographic breakdown is but I guess in Florida there's a different set of conditions.

Reason: Clarification
As said above, I'd sure give it a try appealing to dealer/GM. Are you the original owner? I have a 2009 AWD Edge that both rear wheel bearings died at the same time about 2000 miles over the 50K warranty. I pleaded my case and the dealer/Ford covered 90% of the cost.
The A/C system on my 2017 C7 Grand Sport started blowing warm air. I suspected that it was low on charge. Took the GS to a local corvette repair shop that I have trusted in the past with my previous 2002 C5.
Their leak detector sounded off when they placed it inside the vehicle so they suspected an evaporator leak under the dashboard. They told me that it was the first C7 that they had seen with an evaporator leak. They quoted me $3700 to do the job which requires the complete removal of the dashboard just to get to the evaporator. I did not have it done and asked them to charge the system and buy me some time. That lasted six months until the system went flat again.
Used my extended warranty at the dealer and they said it was a compressor leak and replaced it and charged the system.
I had nice cold air for exactly two weeks. After bringing the vehicle back they replaced the A/C hoses and charged the system back.Again the extended warranty covered the bill except for $100 deductible. I had cold air for one week. Brought the car back to the dealership and asked them if they had used their leak detector inside the car. They responded with we have never seen a leak in the evaporator of a C7. A few days later the called me and told me that my evaporator was leaking under the dash. The extended warranty covered the $5200 job except for the $100 deductible. It's been one year and the GS is nice and cold in the SE Florida heat.
This may be irrelevant, but, it happened to my C4.
I had crispy cold air in my Roadster and then it was gone. I got the refrigerant and refilled it. It worked a couple of days.
I took it to a local shop that I had used for repairs, had been around for years, and also did air conditioning. They checked it out and refilled it. It lasted three days.
When, I took it back, they somehow figured out the valve where you attached the freon cans too, was leaking! I was going for my NCRS Top Flight at the time. He somehow found an NOS line and replaced it.

IDK about your area but over in WI, I believe you are NOT allowed to do that recharge into a system that you know for sure is leaking. Now you go down to Autozone and buy a can of refrigerant sold in small bottles, that is on you but AFAIK, as a business, I cannot do that. At least, that was how it was explained to me when I asked a couple of shops for someone.
