After shelling out to get my stock GS wheels repaired yet again from "pothole" damage, decided it was time to get something that hopefully won't bend as easily. It does seem like a bit of faith that forged wheels will fare better. Yes, forged is stronger than cast, but the manufacturers also prioritize weight savings, so you're not getting the full benefit of that strength advantage. I've never seen an analysis that demonstrated the forces an average light-weight forged wheel can handle compared to a heavier cast wheel. But, here they are, finally installed. Went with BC Forged EH182 in standard factory sizes and standard gloss finish. Had debated going with a bronze finish, but ultimately took the safe route. Wish I could have seen a white GS with them before buying. But, pretty happy with them now. From a distance they don't look much different from the factory wheels, but as you get closer they have some nice detail.
For comparison to the factory wheels, here are two photos with the factory wheels at roughly the same angles.
Those would look sick on a white Vette. I thought about it, but being I have the carbon flash package, I didn't think they would match. So I went with Varro VD01 in gloss black.
Thanks for posting. I am waiting on delivery of BC RZ05 in gloss black for my Blade Silver GS. I posted several questions on forum regarding Fully forged wheels and tires. I also have a friend who is the lead engineer in the transportation industry who recommended Fully forged wheel as they can be repaired should they bend. Also recommended non-run flats.
One other thing that is nice is, compared to the stock wheels, you get a little concave to them. The stock wheels are pretty flat. That's most apparent if you look at the rear wheel in the third photograph.
Very nice! I hope to be ordering from BC Forged before too long. They’re located < 90 minutes drive from me so I’ll definitely check out their showroom.
It may be the photo but the corners look a little rough, like you can see the milling marks on the wheel.
It's not milling marks, but there are multiple surface transitions that are overly abrupt, in my opinion. I think that's what you see. It would have been better to have smoother transitions where the spokes meet the rims. It's not particularly noticeable outside, but under the garage lights up close you can see it more.
