Default Road Rash

There must be a god. I decided to take my transam to work today instead of my daily C7 driver. While in the freeway "pack" a large tire appeared in my lane. No way to escape it. Ran over it with a huge noise. Car appears to be fine but I was thinking if it had been the C7 it could have been real bad. Most of the time there is no way to not be in a pack of cars on the freeway. Have any of you guys experience these dangers on the road.

Most of us have experienced such issues.

Things happen.

Anytime you drive the car on the road you never know what may be lurking out there just waiting to jump up and hit your car. I agree it was a good thing that you did not have the C7 and that no damage was done to your Trans Am.

Thats some good luck. I was on the highway and a semi truck tire exploded. Hit the car next to me and took out part of his bumper. My heart rate was up for a while....

Good move on the switch.Ya never know what life in the fast lane has for you??
Wife's Rav 4 hit something on a ramp.Took out, driveshaft, hangerbearing, gas tank, exhaust and rear end chuck.I didn't trust the fix with the center driveshaft bearing taking a good hit.
I told the insurance the driveline will never be true again! Went on deaf ears.Traded it in on another Rav.In another state.See ya

Gas was pouring out.Closest pullover was a gas station.

No adjustment when floor is compromised

I have manage to miss a bale of hay, a unsecured ladder that came off a bed in a pick up truck, and many road gators. I had a full sheet of wallboard get launched at my Fiero, but it never touched the car. Just sailed over hood and roof. Some times you get lucky and sometimes you don't.

The last time I ran over a road gator I was following too closely and it took out my condensor (in my daily driver). The kicker was that it happened on the way to Florida in July, that was the sweatiest trip ever as I didn't get it fixed until my return home

Last fall in my C6 (pre C7 days) I was about two or three seconds behind a SUV when I saw it, a huge bloated raccoon road kill that the SUV was able to pass over but the C6 not so much. I had very little time to check my mirror and swerve into the other lane to avoid the splat I knew would happen. Since that day I've increased my following distance. I can't imagine the mess AND the rancid smell had I hit that dead critter.

I hit a 50 pound bag of grass seed dead center with my 78 Trans Am years ago. At night, on Interstate, going to fast to avoid. DESTROYED Front spoiler. Only knew it was grass seed from what got stuck in ball joint boots.

Years ago, I ran over a blown out truck retread in a new Trailblazer. Shortly there after, I hear what sounds lake a flat tire, and feel the tire going down, I pull to the side of the interstate and just as I stop, the TPMS flashes 0 PSI. I inspect the tire and have a two inch gash on the sidewall, luckily the weather was sunny and cool, and I was many feet off the travel lanes, on level ground and was able to change it in about 15 minutes.

Yes, its a jungle out there but I guess I've been pretty lucky. The only issue I have had was on a road trip on I95S to see my daughter It seemed that a trucker didnt want me to pass him and forced me into the concrete median. It really happened so quick that I didn't get the jerk's license# .
The only damage was that the front and back driver side OEM wheels were marred. My wondeful insurance CO (GIECO) wouldnt replace them opting instead for "repairing them". With my $500.00 deductible I would have been paying for the entire repair and have an accident on my record so I canceled my claim. A few months later the reair rim cracked and the two wheels on the passenger side became dented. I replaced them all with new forged mono-block wheels from Forged One via Tire Rack

I am impressed that you own and drive a Trans Am.

Well done!

Yeah, you really gotta be careful out there. I've seen semi trailer tires explode throwing tire fragments all over.

During my travels to the US I have noticed that these road gators are much more prevalent in the Southern States - is this due to higher temps?
