I'll update one I have some mileage on the hot glue gun reinforcement. I really think it helps to have a bead of glue on the backside of the seam as the rest of the material is quite flexible and the seam "seems" to be the weak point! :-)
I just ordered a new pair. I'll try the glue bead route, and maybe even add a strip of gorilla tape on the back side to add some strength. .
Wonder why they (GM) would install 3 forward air dams with the Z51 rear spoiler then, on my base, non-Z51? Doesn't make sense. Z51s get 2 side air dams, no center dam, with the larger. Z51 spoiler.
Tadge answered that in his column several years ago.
Basically, they discovered that the overall aerodynamics of the Z51 were such that the center air dam caused enough more downforce on the front that the rear end would get relatively light at high speed, which could produce oversteer. So they deleted the center piece on the Z51 cars.
