Default Tint question

My small side windows aft of the doors were evidently tinted. I have noticed that the tint is on the outside of the window and not applied to the inside. I could probably live with this but the windows weren't properly cleaned before applying the tint and looks dirty even when clean.. The cargo hatch is fine as are the door glass. Just wondering if this is a common practice when tinting C7s..

No sir, not normal. There is a spray solution for removing tint, but since someone did a hack job from the outside, use a heat gun and a razorblade to get that crap off. Then Windex and razor to scrape off the residue. Be careful not to damage the rubber around the glass.

I have always used a steamer. It crinkles the tint where it will peel right off. Then after the plastic is gone, I use an ultra fine steel wool pad with the steamer again and the glue comes right off and sticks in the steel wool. However, you have to use the finest steel wool and not any coarse steel wool or you will scratch the glass. Pretty much effortless.

Never heard of it being applied to the outside of the glass. We cut the pattern from the outside of the glass, but I have never applied it to the outside.

I found basic ammonia based Windex will break down the tint residue enough to just wipe it off with paper towels if you wet in down enough and let it sit for a bit. Should be fine since it's the outside of the car. You can tape plastic under the window to prevent it from draining on the paint.

You never tint on the outside, at least I have never heard of that.

Excellent advice already given by other members, just take your time, clean it thoroughly and get it done right by a pro and on the inside this time lol

Always be careful near the rubber and if using razor blade as well, scratched glass is a PITA

That wasn't the case when I had my '17 GS windows tinted.

If it's really on the outside it was done wrong. You should be able to feel the edge of the tint around the window edges to confirm. unless it got tucked under the seems/seals...

If it's on the outside, get it re-done anyway, so you are on the right tracking getting it off.

If on the inside, try a mild soap and water on the inside, and any window cleaner on the outside so see you can any smudges off. But it sounds like you might have a hack job on your hands..

It was done wrong.
If it were my car I’d remove any tint that’s on the outside. It’s simple to remove.

Then start all over and have a reputable installer do the job you want done.

For removal... the slowest, least aggressive method is your friend, in that it will make it almost impossible to screw-up anything. Just saying...

Done properly, window tint is always applied to the inside of the window, or at least it should be.

I have never seen tint applied on the outside of the window. Sounds like the installer just didn't want to mess with trying to get the tint installed just right on that small area on the inside of the window. There are some good suggestions on how to get the tint off posted above, so good luck.

I'd take advantage of this situation and remove all existing tint. Then find a quality shop and have nano ceramic tint applied...
