Default Weathertech woes

I bought the mats from Amazon when I bought my ‘18 due to nothing but great experiences with them in 2 previous cars. Since day 1 the floor buttons never latched on well on one of the 2 buttons per side. The passenger side button finally failed, I can’t find the cap anywhere.

So…I called weathertech, they told me that they don’t sell the replacement buttons or caps, and to qualify for their lifetime warranty through them directly, you have to order directly through them. I was advised to contact the original Amazon seller for warranty and they are contractually obligated to honor the warranty. Well a few days have gone by and the Amazon seller is not responding to me.

Just be forewarned, I had no idea that this was how it would play out with weathertech, and it seems that there are grey market sellers of weathertech? Even as the original buyer with a receipt in hand this process is a pain. While I can and will try to follow up with weathertech again, I paid a pretty penny for these and am really not happy having to go back and forth.

As you can see the top cap went loose and is now missing.

Last year I purchased all weather WeatherTech floor mats for my sisters Mercedes c300 direct from WeatherTech. Shortly thereafter her car wash folks lost one of the caps when pulling the mats out of the car. I called WeatherTech and they told me the caps are a safety issue and should not have separated from the mat so they sent me a brand new pair of mats. I have the same mats in my Corvette and do like them, the heel area of these hold up better than the WeatherTech FloorLiner.
Perhaps calling them again and speaking with another agent may yield a more favorable outcome?

I’m definitely not going to throw in the towel yet, but the first time I called weathertech I was talking to another rep, he was starting to explain exactly the same, and the call was dropped. He explained just as the second did and as you stated, these are pressed in and for safety concerns could not be sold to the consumer for an at home repair - I’m sure there’s a legal implication with the pedals and a thicker plastic mat. While I totally respect the process and wholeheartedly understand their responsible approach, as a buying consumer I’m not happy about having to chase this, and never knew that they had what sounds like grey market sellers, where a warranty may not be easily pursued by the parent company even if you buy them brand new but from another store. Now the seller is active on Amazon and has not gotten back to me so they are the major rate limiting step. Weathertech did recognize the name of the company, but I had no idea there would be a catch on the lifetime warranty process. I was hopeful that weathertech is a vendor here and might be able to step in and help me out, and possibly share with them that other companies haven’t had me go through such a chasing game, but then again I have probably ever exercised a warranty once or twice that I can recall.

I bought my floor and cargo liners from the company direct but it is good to know about the warranty provisions. You have nothing to lose by calling and speaking to a different customer service rep, so give that a try.

Yah, that's a great point. If you bought them through a middleman, no telling how you're treated.
I compared WeatherTech prices and found buying direct was less than middlemen.
So far, so good. WeatherTechs are doing fine in my C7.

Coming from Queens NY back in the day your neighbors and friends would throw coins into your new car for good luck! Years ago I inherited my neighbors pristine 1 owner 1979 ultra low mile Cadillac. It still has the “Red Bow” from day one attached to the steering column that was commonplace in many NY cars.

Back in the day, mats weren't attached to the floor. My friends just tossed the coins under the mat. But that was out on eastern Long Island, not Queens. hehe

Hey, I like that tradition from that area of the Country, back in the day!

No, mine's nothing like that..... From Day 1 with the new C7, I started throwing the coins that I found while just walking around. Mostly from walking parking lots for exercise, the healthclub floor that people drop out of their pockets. Quarters left in Aldi grocery carts too! I had to empty the floormat when I took it in for warranty work. Here's the collection in my home:

I started picking up change 32 years ago. So far, I've picked up right at $1,450.00 total. I've cashed in once at $400.00 and bought MSFT stock with it once 23 years ago. Just a hobby. Total collection in second photo below. Two of the finds were one hundred dollar bills!

Awesome traditions!

so a quick update, Amazon seems to want to help, and I contacted weather tech they are definitely sympathetic to my situation and didn’t promise a resolution but did tell me they would try to kick it up the chain to the claims department.

By the end of this if I don’t hear from the seller on Amazon I’ll share the selling store’s name to share my experience.

My lesson is definitely learned, buy from weathertech direct in the future.

This is not unique to WeatherTech. I had a warranty denied from CTech on a battery charger purchased from Amazon. They actually have a list of sellers they would not honor warranty claims from. I guess we need to check with a mfg. before purchasing on Amazon.

I've bought lots of Weathertech items over the years with no issues. For the '19, on the recommendation of a forum member (Bird I think?) I ordered some floor coverings from Maxpider which are much more comfortable than the WT's because I usually drive the vettes barefoot. They're a very nicely molded carpet-like mat that fits great. Anything else I drive has WT.

I have the maxpiders for another car, I like them a lot, they also semi Velcro-stick to the floorboard carpet so they really stay put.

My issue is mud is hard to clean from them.

also…this is a big one.

This should be common knowledge for all of us car guys. The same reason I won't buy a Range device from Amazon. Companies are increasingly hesitant to warranty their products if bought from a middle man as every Tom Dick and Harry from eBay to Amazon to Marketplace to Etsy is selling their products. That said, I bought a Weathertech set for my Tahoe a couple years back, from an authorized Weathertech dealer, and the dealer made an issue I had on one of the mats right, not Weathertech. But,as an authorized dealer, he settled it with weathertech behind the scenes

Personally, I believe this goes farther than just Weathertech, in that it's typically better to purchase direct in general. Another good example is purchasing Range Devices from Amazon or middlemen just to save a few bucks only to find you have an outdated unit or
no warranty.
Searching for and purchasing at lowest initial cost isn't always the best value.

I would think it a simple process for WeatherTech to provide a repair center for the ultimate customer satisfaction in service. Charge a nominal fee for freight to patch the buttons that break off from harsh treatment of them by commercial car washes or whoever. Telling ppl to get lost because unbeknownst to the consumer bought their mats from a third party, shouldn't make much difference in how their mats should perform. Or so it seems to me.

BTW, Amazon is notorious for selling Chinese counterfeits. Your mats are likely fakes which is why Weathertech won't warranty them.

This is a great point. Luckily it was not the case in my situation.

For an update and closure, weathertech stepped up and replaced it under warranty. There is a stamping on the bottom of the mats, a seal of authenticity if you will, as an FYI for anyone who has any question as to what they’ve bought from elsewhere.

My ignorance should serve as a reminder, to buy direct if you can or if you care about warranties. At the time of buying, I did not even think to look on weathertech’s site nor did I expect an issue.

Also, hopefully people who stumble on this, know that weathertech is a great product and company. I am very appreciative of weathertech supporting what one of the vendors on Amazon (Hot Ride USA - who did not even bother to respond to me or to Amazon) would not.

Finally, they did advise me that if I do take the car to get washed, that car washers are notorious for ripping them out and damaging the buttons. From here forward, I’ll take mine out myself and put em in the trunk if I ever take it to a car wash.

1) Make sure you update the seller review to warn others of the issue.
2) I think your the only one that takes C7 to a car wash.

Glad it all worked out.
