The Stealerships in Florida work very hard to come up with rip off fees anyway possible. They love to pop them on the final documents just as you are about to sign hoping most people don't notice. That is why they love to push "payments" and not total cost. You have to be prepared to walk out immediately after you cross them off.
I remember long ago I was taking in my K5 Blazer beater truck to trade in and the stealership pulled this BS. I walked out, but they blocked me from backing out of my parking spot with a brand new expensive car and they would not move it. But after covering it with exhaust soot and getting about an inch from pushing it back with my beater truck they moved it and let me go.
I am still astonished in today's online model of Carvana and Voom they still practice this crap.
Everything now is:What can you afford per month payment special. They love to spread out all their little additional crap...
The stealers ain't happy when the NO'S start flying.Should say,Salesmen
Florida has the highest documentation fees in the United States, with an average doc fee of $670. By contrast, New York has the lowest doc fees, with an average of $75. Other states with very high doc fees include Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.
Some states have limits on how much dealers can charge for doc fees and how the fees can be presented. For example, Texas allows a maximum doc fee of $150, while Kansas allows a maximum of $299.
Thanks guys. He picked it up this morning. After some more battling, he paid 62, plus tax, plus a much smaller doc fee. All good, he’s happy and I’m happy for him. The car looks great, owned by an older couple in FL.
The reconditioning fee is complete trash. I wouldn't pay it. The rest of the fees are kind of BS but also come with the territory. If you don't pay, someone else will so they will likely decline to sell you the car. The C7's are in high demand so the dealer has the upper hand. How bad do you want the car? I would ask them to drop the reconditioning fee and cut the doc fees in half or walk. Otherwise you are getting ripped off for sure and some other fool will pay them all.

I agree.
In order to sell the car they need to make it look as good as possible, so "reconditioning" is an expense that the dealer needs to absorb in order to get the best price for his vehicle.
The market is turning IMHO. At least in the Knoxville area. Let him look here.
In a stretch of a dealership boulevard called Parkside Drive here, I spotted no less than 15 or 20 C7s for sale at several dealerships.
Most have been there for a while now. The market is adjusting. People are no longer willing to pay those crazy prices for a C7.
Seriously though, have him google Parkside drive dealerships in Knoxville, he's bound to find a Vette he likes. It's littered with them.
