I have a 2014 C7 Z51 with 16000 miles and a torque tube issue. Car runs fine, shifts fine, but rattles at idle. Rattles loud. How much am I looking at to replace the torque tube as I’ve heard GM will not fix just replace.
A torque tube replacement is an expensive fix...basically the entire back end of the drive train has to be removed...lots of labor here plus the cost of the part(s) Someone will chime in with a cost estimate I'm sure
Mine was under warranty at the time, car only had 16k miles at the time as well. Also dont let them go bad and continue driving on a bad torque tube. When they go bad the prop shaft starts to walk back and forth, over time it will damage the thrust bearing in the engine. Eventually that damage can take out the crankshaft in the engine.
Usually more of an issue on the high horsepower cars. Been that way since the C5. Just replaced a torque tube on a c6 Zr1 making over 900 at the wheels. The rubber couplers at the end break apart.
Good Lord, Is this a problem isolated to C7s? Or are all recent corvettes subject to the failure.
I've never heard of this problem with any other car.
It's rare. I have been reading on these forums for years and very very seldom read about torque tube issues. Exponentially more posts about the Automatic 8 transmission, which I have never had any issues with over tens of thousands of miles.

Whew!
That's good to hear. I was starting to get worried.
Had my entire torque tube (support member) replaced under warranty on my ‘17 M7 due to a failed clutch pilot bearing. Below is the paperwork showing prices but I get the feeling this number is funny money. $2423 is what they claim for the tube assembly itself. . The labor numbers on all the pages not shown are not easily interpreted.
In terms of complexity the rear cradle comes out too (pic from back in the day when I did this stuff at home on my 2000. uugghhh

Wow that looks like a huge job! I do my own mechanic but nowadays I'm so busy with work this type of job I would ask a reputable Lexus dealer to try and replace it for me.
One thing about C8, even if you don't like the look, no torque tube, I have a friend whose C6 is going to cost $20000 to fix...blew the engine because of it among other things!
