Happy Fourth of July folks. Yesterday I was vacuuming out my 14 coupe, and while doing the back compartment, the little weatherstrip that attaches to the body right in front of the spoiler came loose in the middle. The hatch closes against this. It looks like it just slips in, but will not stay. There is no evidence of adhesive on it. Before I break out the 3m weatherstrip adhesive, and try to not make a mess, I figured I would ask my fellow forum members for guidance. Thanks.

My 2014 had the same issue. It was falling off from day one. Don’t recall if I glued it or not.

Same here, I glued it back in place.
I tried 3M double sided tape but it was too thick and didn’t hold well between the rubber and textured plastic. I tired some aftermarket generic car weather stripping but suffered the same fate within weeks. I got some weather sealing foam tape from Lowes as a backup is case my current fix becomes unglued.
Even after gluing it sags in places. Clearly a poor design, it should clip or snap in. There was some glue-like residue visible when it came off so I believe the factory glues it down too.

On mine it appears to be just a pressure fit piece of weatherstripping. I have taken mine off and reinstalled it and it still fits tight, but my car only has 5300 miles on it, so that may have something to do with it.
Thanks all. I guess I will break out the 3m adhesive. Seems like a cheezee part on an otherwise awesome car. ( It is a chevrolet though).
This wheatherstrip is a rubber glued to a snap on plastic piece to the rear bumper.
From videos I've seen on Youtube they tell you to pry with a pry tool on the plastic snaps rather than pull on the weatherstrip to take off the rear bumper.
You should be able to buy the whole piece that snaps in place and it should include the weatherstrip.
I just bought the weatherstrip for the front bumper where it meets the hood. Just had the bumper resprayed and it had to come off.
$38 at the dealer.

The piece sides out rather easily, just get a pry tool in there and push towards the front of the car. I removed mine to make cleaning and applying the new glue easier.
Just 15 seconds into this video he talks about removing this piece:
It sounds like the design may have been "adjusted" during production. My '18 is no problem. If it becomes so, I'd use Permatex Ultra Black silicone and stick it into place, taped or whatever was necessary until fully cured. I had to do so with my '01's rear, removable top w/s a few years after I got it (and, still have it) Be sure to clean all "glued" surfaces well and let dry thoroughly. I realize everyone "knows" that, but... I typically use alcohol... to clean with, that is. All the best.
