Greetings from Colorado: I've been reading about C7 Corvettes for some time now. This week I took delivery of a 2017 Grand Sport LT2 with the infamous cast aluminum wheels and A8; my first sports car with an automatic. I am thrilled with the purchase. Let me introduce myself. I've owned at least 14 sports cars in the last 60 years. I started with a Healey 3000 and then several other British sports cars. Lotus was my favorite marque back then. I owned a Lotus Europa S2 for a while. I had a 79 Corvette L82 coupe for several years. I also had what I call the German Corvette, a Porsche 928. I drove a Honda S2000 for over 10 years, a fun car to drive. But this Corvette Grand Sport is the best sports car I have ever owned. It drives so precisely. Yes, I agree a manual transmission is more engaging, but they are fading away fast as the new design automatics like the A8 are faster in competition. I need to learn to efficiently operate one. I find my new sports car very well styled and very comfortable to drive. And it is fast! It is sterling blue with a "peanut butter" interior. I'm a grandpa and the color suits me fine. Matches my hair don't you know.
I have learned alot about the C7 from these Forums already, and I have a lot more to learn. Thanks for reading...
Congratulations on your purchase of a 17 GS ! I have the same year and model. I went with Blade Silver. Sterling Blue was cancelled right before I ordered mine. It’s a beautiful color. The GS is great ! Enjoy !
nice looking ride! welcome.
that interior color combo is quite tasteful for sure, not too much just enough in the seat / console area.
cant quite say ive seen the sterling blue much at all. i like it.
Thank you kindly for the welcoming replies. I have an appointment for the A8 "triple flush" per the TSB just as a preventive maintenance item since there was no record of it ever being done. I'll also refresh the fluid in the e-diff too. I have not detected any symptoms of problems with the A8, but my experience level with it is way too low to notice. The engine oil and filter has already been changed. I like to keep my sports car well maintained, by the book so to speak. I used to do it myself, but advancing complexity in cars and advancing age has slowed that activity down quite a bit.
The Sterling Blue was an unpopular color with only about 400 cars painted with it. So Chevy dropped it. But I'm one of the few who rather like the color. It certainly isn't a typical sports car color. When I'm buying a used sports car, the color is typically farther down on the "must have" priorities. Options, history, condition and price are higher priority for me. This car was already fitted with A/S-3 "street" tires which was a plus for me. Many C7s are "garage queens" or owned by casual drivers who like the "sportiness" of the car. Others are owned by people who track them and enjoy their high performance limits. I look for the garage queens as I figure they might have less wear and tear. I will report a bent or cracked wheel once I experience one. There are lots of potholes in roads in Colorado.
I have read here and other places that Corvettes have always been designed as "daily drivers" even with their high performance capabilities. I was nervous about driving the thing home in city traffic for the first time. I was assured that the car was easy to drive and won't bite me unless I have a heavy throttle foot. I found this to be true. It is easy to drive "normally". Just be aware of the 460hp available. Luckily there are enough "nannies" built into the car like traction control, stability control, ABS, and the like to help keep the car and me out of trouble. I do like to drive it in sport mode most of the time.
I traded my z51 for a GS in 2019. My only small regret is the z51 had the Kalahari interior and the new GS has black. You will love the GS. I know I love mine.
I would take a slower M7 or an auto any day.. And I know a lot of guys on here would also. Its depressing that these auto makers are going auto only on their performance cars.. That's going to make me stick with the older cars..
