Learning about what lives under the hood of my vette. Can someone tell me this part is.

Electric vacuum pump for the power brake booster. It only runs if the engine has not provided enough vacuum pressure to the booster.

Thank you for the quick response and education! So in my curiosity I removed the cap and a rubber seal fell to the side. Do you know if that just sits on top of the unit and the cap goes over it or do you stretch the rubber around the base of the unit and then place the cap on it. I know, I'm an idiot for being curious.
