Well I got careless yesterday backing out of the garage. I took my eye off the edge of the garage entrance while backing out and I almost took the passenger side mirror off. I didn't though so there's that. It scuffed and scratched the bejesus out of it. Today I'm trying to save it using scuff remover, prepping the mirror and I am applying a few light coats of GM Carbon Flash spray paint. It is now drying and I will buff it lightly tomorrow and apply some polish/wax. Hope it works out if not I have to get a body shop to rehab it or buy a new mirror assembly. If that becomes necessary I hope GM has painted mirrors in Carbon Flash. We'll see how it looks tomorrow.

I feel your pain. Back in 1995 I spent 5 months in Turkey. My rental over there was a POS Fiat. My first day home I swung my 89 convertible wide into the garage and clocked my passenger side mirror on the edge of the door opening. Scuffed it pretty good. I knew some guys at a local body shop so they fixed it for me for free. I felt pretty stupid.
Well I finished the paint repair. The ACDelco paint I used said it did not require clear coat after application. The paint looks dull. Should I use a rubbing compound like the Turtle Wax product which is made for light polishing? Or should I use my orbital polisher to bring out the shine? Some good advice is appreciated as to not make matters worse. Thanks in advance...
Did something similar a few years ago. Those initial moments of disbelief at what happened seemed like hours. Anyway, I took a little different route in that I used the color match that I needed from automotivetouchup. They provide separate color and clear coats. I finished with wet sanding by hand the color coat with 2000 and 3000 if memory serves. Then applied clear. Came out great. I'm not sure if just polishing will get you there but might be worth a shot. Otherwise, go to that site and order what you need. Carbon Flash ought to be relatively easy as far as blending in.
Been there...I broke off 2 passenger side mirrors on my C5 on the garage door frame in the 15 years I owned it...my wife did a 3rd tripping in the garage & using the mirror to stop from falling. It was a good trade...at least she didn't injure herself. The C7 has come through unscathed so far...knock on wood.
So I used rubbing compound and an orbital polisher followed by polish. I got a little more Gloss out of my repair job but still nowhere near original. I will live with this a bit since its much better that the very visible scratches and gouges the mirror housing had. I will visit a local body shop and see how much they will charge for a rehab of my mirror housing. More updates once I have something to update...

Don't feel bad. I was washing my car and I noticed some curb rash on my brand new wheels Sat. Have no idea how it happened. I'll throw a pic up. Should I just put some touch u
p paint to cover it? Its gloss black..

Don't live in fear. I was talking to my dad about that the other day. When buying an expensive car, all you can think of is all the bad stuff that can happen to it. That's why we have insurance. This is just an inconvenience ,but still pisses me off. Also, these cars should have cross traffic alert and sensors that tell you how close your are to objects like my 08 freaking Saturn outlook has..
Been there, passenger mirror on my Camaro got tore up the same way. I pulled it off of the car myself and took it to the local GM body shop. They charged me about ~$100 to repaint it, but this was 2014 and Artic White so it was an easy (cheap) color.
