Default key fob question

New Corvette owner here (2014 Coupe). I was just quoted almost $400 from my local Chevy dealer for a new fob and programming. I have one fob, just would like an additional one. Are there any reputable 3rd parties recommended that will do this a little more reasonably? Or, what do you recommend? Thanks in advance.

The fob can be purchased online for $150 but requires programming. I’d try a few different dealers in your area. Perhaps you’ll find a better price if you shop around.

4 button TRANSMITTER W/O REMOTE START Manual 14/15 22779879 16/19 23465950
5 button TRANSMITTER W/REMOTE START Automatic 14/15 22779880 16/19 23465951
5 button TRANSMITTER W/O REMOTE START Manual Convertible 14/15 22816265 16/19 23465954
6 button TRANSMITTER W/REMOTE START Automatic Convertible 14/15 22816266 16/19 23465955
NOTE: Part numbers can change! Always verify part numbers with your dealer!!

Get the correct part for your car.

Now, follow the instructions in this thread. Do the long program and you'll have a FOB 1 & 2 that will have memory capability for both FOBs. If you add the FOB as #3 FOB, it will not have the memory (seats, radio presets, mirrors, etc) and it will only do the basics to run the car.

You can actually program the Fob yourself. Your Owner's Manual has instructions on how to do it. The car can be programmed to accept up to eight Fobs (1-8). The car was originally delivered with two Fobs that have full access to all of the car's features. Fobs 3 and above do not have full access to all of the car's features although they will let you open the car and drive it.

Cultragfactoryparts shows the following Key Fob part numbers for your car:

Which part number you order depends on whether the car is an A6 or Coupe Vs Vert. I don't know if these Fobs come with the emergency key blank or not. A number of years ago the key blanks had to be ordered separately.

If you do a Google search for C7 Corvette Entry Key you will find there are a number of vendors that sell Key Fobs with the Emergency Key Blanks.

The programming instructions are in your OM on page 2-5. There are two processes, Programming with a Recognized Transmitter and Programming without a Recognized Transmitter.

Programming with a Recognized Transmitter will let you quickly program your new Fob to the car. However, it does not wipe out the Fobs that were programmed before you got the car so you don't know for sure how many Fobs are wandering around that can start your car and let somebody drive off.

Programming without a Recognized Transmitter is more involved and the process erases all of the previously programmed Fobs and lets you start over. Since you don't have both of the original key fobs you will need to use this process to reprogram the car so it only recognizes the FOBs you have on hand.

Yo, Bill! All the pictures show 4 button FOBs.

22816266 should be 6 buttons automatic transmission convertible with remote start

22779880 is an automatic transmission coupe with remote start 5 button

22816265 is a manual transmission convertible 5 button

22779879 is a manual transmission coupe 4 button

yes, in theory you can reprogram it yourself BUT, I found it frustratingly difficult (I have minimal mechanical skills/intuition) to do so so I paid my Vette mechanic the hour he charges and the 30 minutes he actually took ( and even he had to do it more than once).......

I have had no problems adding a fob to my 2006, 2014, and 2019.

Note that the metal key needs to be ordered and cut. A locksmith can copy your one key or they can be cut by key code if you have it or your dealer looks it up for you.
