I would like to see you plugging a rear tire when it is on your car !!!
It's not that hard at all to do. I plugged the passenger rear tire on my C6. The nail I removed was closer to the outside and I was able to get at it without getting down on the ground. If the nail had been in the middle or near the inside it would hav still been possible, just would have required I lay on the ground to reach it. I inflated the tire from a nearly flat situation with my Walmart Slime pump. The key to all of this is having a tire inflator pump, a plug kit, and a small pair of plyers to pull the nail out with. This and AAA roadside assistance is all you need.
So my new to me 2019 GS has the Conti Extreme Contact DWS 06 on all four corners. All are almost brand new. Haven't got to test them out yet, but do plan on changing to run-flats after these wear out.
Many thanks from the newbie.
LOL, 🤣 .. boy, are you in for a surprise! ... Once you change the Conti Extreme Contacts for a set of Run-Flats you will be SOOO aggravated! ... The run flats will be MUCH louder. The run flats will be MUCH harsher and stiffer. The run flats will wear MUCH faster than what you have, ... But worst of all, ... The super thick side walled run-flats will give you the dreaded "steering skip hop" at low speed, sharp angle turns! When you introduce this to your car, you will be begging for a new set of NON RUN FLATS!
^^^
A husband and wife I knew put the Michelin PS2 tires on their C6, using the non-runflats because the runflat version was not available yet. When they wore out that set, they replaced them with the same tire in runflat version. When I asked about the differences between runflat and non-runflat, he said he couldn't tell any difference in ride or noise but the runflats seemed to handle a little better. They both went on to be regional NCCC autocross champs on the runflats.
We have the stock PSS runflats on our 2017 Z51 and they sometimes do the skip-hop thing in sharp low speed turns, but we have the AS3+ runflats that don't do it at all down to -20'F.
The only way to do a valid comparison is to buy the same tire in the same size in both versions and test them.
We had a flat in our C6 overnight at a B&B near the Tail of the Dragon. It was a sidewall cut that couldn't be plugged or patched. We were at the end of a long twisty narrow road where a flatbed couldn't get in, and there was no way to remove the wheel and no way to get it to a tire store. So we just fired up and drove the full length of the Dragon to the store. It cost us a couple of hours out of our day, instead of at least a day or two without the runflats.
If there were just one perfect choice, everyone would be using it.
I had to plug a tire that that had a small finishing nail in it. I had to drill a 3/16 in hole in order to plug it so add a drill to the stuff you will need. And also Fix A-flat, Tire Slime or any of that junk will damage your TPMS Sensor !!!
