Detailing my coupe today and tried to back it up. No go. Also noticed the check engine light come on. tried pulling forward , stop and restart. Still no reverse.
Thanks. I researched the threads and saw the issue covered. Got it into reveres by pulling hard. Going to see if there is a fuse for the lockout circuit and pull it. Will also read the check engine code. Car is on my lift now and will check the wires on the lockout solenoid.
Started car. Trouble light on. Had to force into reverse. Backed the car 20 yds and put into 1st. Moved forward, stopped and it shifted easily into reverse.. Repeated a couple times. Drove car to my nephew's garage to decipher the trouble code. Code P0502 (wheel speed sensor). Cleared code and all is well. Earlier Forum thread reported the same problem. Owner had left rear wheel sensor changed that was shorted causing the reverse lockout sensor to engage. Will monitor this.
P0502 isn't a wheel speed sensor it is the vehicle speed sensor located on the transmission. One of the failure modes will cause the reverse lockout solenoid to be activated.

Make sense... it is trying to keep you from accidentally selecting reverse while at speed.
