Default Full or Front PPF?

I have 2019 C7 grand sport. I want to get PPF and a ceramic coating. I had a bunch of rock chips on my bumper so I had it repaired at the body shop, whole front end painted and blended. Looks great. But now I’m thinking about doing the whole car in PPF instead of full front. Problem is I have rock chips near the beginning of the rear quarter panels and a ton of them under the doors. I don’t want to go back to the body shop again, would be a ton of work. Does it make sense still doing a full PPF with existing rock chips or should I just do the full front? Or a different combination ?

Thanks
philip

I had the lower part of my doors wrapped. I have no rock chips on them but I think the main reason is I installed wider mud flaps on all four wheels.

I also had PPF put on the roof and A pillars since they take hits from kicked up rocks.

It gets expensive fast if you do a full PPF on the car. I did just the front and lower portion of the doors on mine and no rock chips, but I also installed wider splash guards and side skirts on the car.

The whole car is overkill, if your going to do it just the front and lower sides is more than enough

I installed side skirts on my C7 and there are no rock chips along the side, bottom of doors etc. I put Xpel across the entire front bumper, headlight covers and rear view mirrors.

I have decided to do a track pack for PPF on my GS posted elsewhere on here, which will vary from installer to installer... but generally is some combination of: front bumper, hood, front quarters, front lights, A pillars, mirrors, both rocker panels, and sometimes portion of rear quarters just above where break ducts are on GS down in front of rear tire well.
As for rock guards I went with ACS for the front and rear, not the cheapest but as far as fit and finish they were what I wanted.

If you care about looks, you'll want to do full panel PPF (not halfway up the hood). I did bumper, full hood, fenders, and rocker panels. I think that is the most protection you would want. Then I applied ceramic coat over the PPF and rest of the car.

You can certainly apply PFF over the existing rock chips. Depending how bad they are, after a proper polish, you'll likely not notice many of them. However, they will be locked in under the PPF, so just be aware of what you're willing to accept.

I bought the ACS splash guards which are wider and deeper than stock. They now have an even wider version that you might want if you've changed wheels and the tires now protrude more from the wheel well. They are easy to install and protect the front edge of your side skirts.

You said you had a GS. Doesn't that mean you have side skirts already?

I have a lot of miles on mine. When I bought it I installed these from ACS. I have no chips on the side of the car, and as you can see from my car description below I have the PPF installed. Those wider longer rock guards stop stones from attacking underneath and flying up towards the rear quarter panel brake ducts, etc.

I do have a GS, but i don't have side skirts...didn't know i was supposed to! And i bought it new from the dealer in 2019. I think its too late to call the dealer now!! I tried to take some photos showing the chips.... car is a little dirty and I was getting a reflection from the pavement but you can make them out. I don't know if it should just do paint correction and ceramic OR do PPF also but i don't know how those rock chips will look. Should i try that drcolorchip and if so, do i PPF it or just ceramic? I am definitely doing the full front, hood, etc.... just trying to decide what else makes sense without having to repaint the entire car! I just had the front sprayed to fix rock chips.

Also, other than the splash guards and possible PPF, anything else I should buy to prevent this going further? I only drive on weekends primarily.

First of all contact the dealer even thought it was quite a while ago. Those skirts, and front splitter are shipped to the dealer separately from the car because of possible damage moving the car from container to container. Then they are part of dealer prep for the the customer before they buy the car or pick it up. Ceramic wont' mitigate chips. You'll need the PPF for that. Have the paint touched up first of all. It won't be and arm and a leg. Get the side skirts PPF'd before they are installed.
As an aside, the PPF manufactures are all pretty good. Just make sure whoever you go with has the self healing film, as mine is with the Llumar brand. Others have that feature. The key is the installer with these films. Be sure the installer is reputable.
Honestly. I have over 50K on my C7 Z06, and aside from a couple of small nicks the film on the hood area wear sharp objects tattooed it, and not noticeable unless you get real close, the car is immaculate.
One other thing. I just have the stock rear guards that came with the car and don't have one paint chip or blemish on that rear area.
PS. The dealer also didn't provide that front splitter that was supposed to be installed. If you want one, you might consider a carbon flash, or something similar, rather than the "poverty splitter" that comes with it. I don't care myself, but you may. But consider the fact that if you damage a splitter because they can be expensive to replace. I would probably be a candidate for a real nice one because I live in an area where there are not steep driveways, etc.
If you decide you want a carbon flash splitter, for example, you would probably want the carbon flash splats on the front wheel wells to match becasue they are the same material the "poverty" splitter is. AC composite, where you would buy the nice front rock guards sells those also in a combination rock guard, spat package.

Your dealer screwed up! Your side skirts and front splitter were shipped to the selling dealer ahead of the car being delivered. Those should have been installed during PDI. I know because my dealer did the same, but I wouldn't take delivery until they were installed. They didn't even know they had them in the Parts Dept.

On our `19 GS we had the full front (nose, hood, fenders), rockers, side skirts, A pillars, mirrors, brake ducts and rear "triangle". $2500-ish.

I did PPF on the front fascia, headlights, rocker panels and mirrors with ceramic on the rest of the car and wheel barrels... Saved a chunk of cash and looks great.

I did not get front bumper cover done on 2016 Z51 and paid for that with lots of chips

Just bought a 2017 GS that had the worst PPF I 've ever seen. It was installed in lots of places Looked like I had done it??
Had it removed and reinstalled on Front bumper

I use APEX out of League City Texas. They do great work.

They did my Mustang too and when a low life hit and ran my front grill/bumper cover it did not damage paint, but cost $$ to redo this,

I only get full panels done or not at all. I just do not like to see a seem in the PPF.

I wish there was something for the windsheild
