I have a question about on star. I just received a e-mail about the miles and the oil life status of my '19 GS. Is there a way block GM from seeing this information ??
Thank you,
Rich
I guess the big question is why bother. So GM notices it and provides an email to you? It isn't an invasion of privacy. If you take the car in for warranty or other service work they will know the information anyways. It is just like your face. Public information.
This is my first GM car since my '67 Chevelle that I purchased new, and my ( purchased used 75 Vette ) . I am not used to having this info. sent via. e-mail. My wife has a '15 Honda CRV and I have a '16 Tundra Limited that I maintain.

I get the e-mail every month also, so this bothers you?
Doesn't bother me, just not used to having someone looking over my shoulder reminding me when to service my car. I still have a 1982 Toyota 4X4 with the original engine and trans. that still plows snow.
Thank you for the info.

I would prefer GM not monitor my car unless I opt in. But it is not a big deal..
It was disconcerting how much information the Sheriff's Department had after Tiger Woods accident. The computer in the car let them know way to much about how he was driving, prior to the accident!
it's more involved than simply pulling a fuse to disable it without affecting other systems.
there's actually a thread in the C8 section that goes into detail about it & which card controls the communication.
i saw that thread right after removing the cellular card from my Dodge truck.
after having a forced over-the-air update lock me out of the head unit until i accepted its unknown software changes - followed by learning my truck's GPS position, mileage, diagnostic info, etc., was also being constantly collected into an FCA database (regardless of subscription status) - that was my tipping point. that information is none of their business, and the only way to prevent your vehicle from sending that data is to disable its two-way cellular connection.
on another note, that's also the same connection that a couple software engineers demonstrated can be hacked to access & remotely control the vehicle's systems: everything from the radio station/volume to windshield wipers, engine operation, steering, brakes... almost anything.

That's ANY cars system they can do it to, got nothing to do with Onstar.
I never payed for their service and never really wanted it.
After what I thought was 3 months of free service with my new '19 I started getting monthly reports of general conditions with the car.
They never got my CC info and after about 18 months I recieved notice that my service would be terminated.
I replied that it was fine to terminate as long as they turned off the lights on my rear view mirror..
Lights went off.
Didn't I read here that their service was ending for all at the end of the year?

For those that have difficulty remembering when an oil change is due (other than just seeing it when the DIC or OLM light comes on), the e-mail helps them I guess. I have received the messages on my cars and really do not see the big deal - ignore them if you want.
