Z51 overheating
MODS:
• custom grid stage 2 camshaft from Excessive Ranig here in Houston.
• lifters, rocker arms, etc. To support the camshaft.
• dyno tuned
• 180 thermostat
6 months ago I added an msd manifold. 100mm TB and an Injen CAÍ. So far I have put about 150 miles on the car without tuning the manifold, TB and CAÍ and it recently (2 weeks ago) it started overheating while driving and at idle.
My coolant reservoir is full, oil is clear (Not Milky), No white smoke coming out of the car. No coolant leak from the radiator or hoses. Car still ran Smooth after the manifold, Tb and CAÍ.
could it be a stuck thermostat? Any ideas?
Not yet Dennis. Since I had most of the parts Installed at the shop I took it in for labor work today. I was curious if a manifold would cause these issues but I really doubt it.
This can not be known by checking the overflow. You need to look in the radiator itself. Burb it well, search here or google for tips.
If there is a big air bubble it could mess stuff up and make the thermostat not function correctly.
I would also get a "second opinion" on temps. Like put a temp sensor in the radiator fins, or some other place to confirm the computer is seeing what is actually happening.
Also confirm in a pot of water when the thermostat is opening. Should be within 10 degrees of what it is rated for.
Slowly but surely you will find the issues. I bet it won't be a big deal, but I bet it will take some time.
Take it slow, it is probably something stupid and sneaky.
