Steady check engine indicator appeared.
Scanned and got a P0171 code on my 2016 C7 Stingray. Understand that code indicates engine is running lean. Can I assume mass air flow sensor is dirty or needs replacement? I recently replaced the air filter with a K&N filter. Could that have caused this code?
Before I go to the dealer, I assume I should try cleaning the mass air flow sensor and check for vacuum hose leaks.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks
Since this code appeared shortly after you installed a new air filter, I would look at anything that you took apart to make sure those items are re installed correctly
I checked the various hoses and even though they looked firmly attached, one was not seated properly. I seated it firmly and started the engine. Check engine light immediately turned off.
Thanks

You can try THIS first and clear the check engine light but I would suggest getting it from somewhere besides Rock Auto. I have finally come to the conclusion that the price of doing business with them is too high from an aggravation standpoint. I'd buy a scanner that can read live data and not a code reader so someone who can understand that data might come along and be able to point you in the right direction.
This is the first time I have posted a message on this forum, or any forum, but I feel I must. Last month I bought a 2014 C7 with 17,800 miles. It has run flawlessly. Not knowing exactly what maintenance the previous owner had performed I decided to do some of the services this week. Yesterday, I took out the oem filter and put in a K & N. That evening, after about 40 miles of driving, the engine light came on and the car suddenly died. I tried to restart it, but it only sputtered. Fortunately, I have a good local mechanic, and he said the mass air flow sensor had oil in it. He tried to clean it, but couldn't. He put a new sensor in and also the old oem filter. The car runs flawlessly again. I'm posting this because I saw on the K & N website where they vigorously deny that their filters could ever cause this problem. Well, either they're wrong or this was just an amazing coincidence. I'll let you decide, but I have to recommend against them.
I've run them before. Problem is that out of the box, it could be over oiled. Also, the user tends to dump too much oil. I've always washed mine and oiled it myself.
