This can be done easily with photoshop in 20 minutes to create fake bills, letter heads, insurance documents, etc... I hand you a paper and who do you pay? Did you pay with cash? How was the transaction occurring

2. they actually warranty and replaced the part legit, money went through the dealer, leaving the possibility that this was an unnecessary replacement of the differential. But why? Do they get paid some dividend based on service render? Is there a commission? I am looking for a motive why they would want to replace a part unnecessarily and I bet there is some connection between numbers and performing warranty work.

-A pic of the metal on the diff plug would have lended alot of feasibility and credibility to the claim that it was bad, why wasnt this done? They can't take a picture? Not advanced enough? No cameras? Sounds like BS

Just trying to make sure the fellow car enthusiast gets what he is paying for! I am a force for good and right
I don't know for sure but my understanding is that while I pay say $100 per hour, warranty work pays say $80 (just pulling out numbers). I'm not sure of the percentage but I heard it is definitely less. Enough that they prefer to private pay as opposed to warranty pay. If someone is a tech and can correct me, I would be interested to know.

I agree that had the OP taken a picture of any damage WHILE the unit was coming out, it would have made it easier. Unfortunately, it is not just in the Corvette world. Most people just throw the car and the credit card at the shop and get a call when it is done. For big jobs, I like to see what is happening. Regardless, I would want to see the old part. IF it is private pay, I will tell you that I want the old part back and I probably will be watching you pull it. I have stood outside the shop to satisfy their insurance issues to watch something being done.

Sorry, what I mean is, if I am working at a dealer and somebody brings in a vehicle, lets say for a misfire issue like this.
During the visit I look the vehicle over and I notice everything 'wrong' with it,
"your tailshaft is leaking, the diff plug is covered with metal, it needs an alignment, the control arm bushing is shot, the tie rod is bent, the sway bar bolts fell out, the right rear brake caliper is locked up, etc..."

Then I proceed to charge you and sell you all these services, as opposed to simply fixing the misfire by adjusting the gap (new plugs installed right out of the box had the wrong gap so somebody forgot to gap them and the car misfires- Very Common Issue VCI)

Do I make more money? Me as the person working at the dealer, not the dealer. OF course the dealer gets more money. But the person doing the work- do they get paid more? Does the manager get a kickback for all the upsells? If so, that is a motive here.
