I see company's that are selling cleaner and a waterproofing product.

thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Some use a product called Raggtop. I read about what it does and how it made the top look, and decided against using it, or anything else besides the neutral detergent and water rinse procedure that I've been using for years now.
Frequently hand wash convertible tops with mild car wash soap. Never use a stiff brush, steam, bleach,
or aggressive cleaners. If necessary, a soft brush can be used to remove dirt. When finished cleaning, thoroughly rinse the fabric. Avoid automatic car washes with overhead brushes or very high-pressure sprays as they can cause damage and leaking.
My ‘14 is my daily driver. I wash it as recommended and it still looks new. I figure if GM thought it was okay (or necessary) to use anything special they’d say so.
I have owned 14 Corvettes over the last 47 years, all of them convertibles. I have never used ANYTHING but mild soap and a soft brush on the top. No chemicals for me. GM does not recommend them, and neither do I. Your car, your choice..
I use Auto Glym product for my top. They have a kit that supplies soap, sponge and protector. I have applied it twice now and the top still beads. The kit lasts a long time. There are others on the market that are just as good but l got mine as a gift and l am happy with the results.
I have used both RaggTop cleaner and protectant as well as Griot's cleaner and protectant. Both have worked well, but RaggTop is recommended by the manufacturer of convertible tops for Corvette. I feel better about using a cleaner specifically formulated for fabric. I have found most important to use a soft bristle brush with the cleaner to work the soapy cleaner into the pores of the fabric to lift out the dust and other contaminants, followed by a thorough rinse. Once a year, after a wash and after the top is thoroughly dry (usually next day), I will follow with a spray coating of the fabric protectant. It is rather like "Scotchgard" used to repel spills and stains on household fabrics. Take care to clean any overspray on the windows or paint before it dries. Will dry clear on the top and provide an added layer of protection for the fabric.
