Default MyLink w/Navigation require subscription?

I'm sure that this has probably been asked several times but I will try it again. I can considering trading my 2010 C6 for a 2015 C7. It states that it has MyLink w/Navigation and my question is: does this require a monthly subscription? I have navigation built in my C6 but I actually use a Garmin on dash unit as I suspect it works much better but I have never actually tried the built in unit.

Merry Christmas,

Don

No it does not. If you want traffic alerts you will need a xm subscription. I use a Garmin also for my C7. I don't think it's fair to compare any factory system to Garmin, in my mind they are far superior and any dummy like myself find the Garmin very easy to use.

No sub needed. I honestly just use waze for traffic notifications and nav. Never had to use the actual Nav function, if that is what you are asking.

MyLink requires a monthly subscription. Mylink is standard but a navigation unit is optional on 1LZ and 2LZ cars and included in 3LZ cars. The navigation unit is included with the performance data recorder. A 3LZ car will have both MyLink and a Nav unit. The Nav unit doesn't require a monthly subscription and can be used just like the Nav unit in your C6.

You have to be careful when purchasing a car if you want Nav in it since sales people will claim MyLink is Navigation when it isn't truly on board Nav. A number of people wanting the PDR have bee misled by this confusion when purchasing used C7s. Look for RPO code IO6 on the RPO Sticker located under the rear cargo compartment next to the rear electrical center. On 2019 and maybe 2018 cars the RPO information is online and you have to use the QR code located on the door sticker to get the information.

Okay, take a look at the one at https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...FRuGYo5m4C7rec and give me your opinion. The narrative states "2015 Corvette Chevrolet Stingray Z51 3LT" and further down it states "Chevrolet MyLink w/Navigation".

3Lt will have Navigation. I do not care what anyone says about how great their cell phone Navigation is, nothing beats having the Navigation information coming up on your HUD.

With all the crud on the roads, pot holes, and 2 1/2" clearance on the front end, I do no like taking my eyes off the road!

Also, make sure the update for the A8 Tranny has been done and the Magnetic Ride Upgrade has been updated. Those are two must haves!

MyLink does not require a subscription. It references the infotainment system. If you you have MyLink with navigation you can use the built in gps navigation with no monthly charge. You will miss some premium features in navigation unless you have OnStar which does require a subscription.

Thanks for the info, it was appreciated. I just want to make sure that a 2015 C7 does not use DVD's like a 2010 C6 does, is that correct?

Don,
MyLink is an overall infotainment control system. There were two Navigation style systems available for the C7. If the car wasn't ordered with the optional NAV/PDR it gets the Nav function through On Star Turn by Turn Navigation which is a subscription service. The car referenced is a 3LT which just like the 3LZs has the built-in optional Navigation/PDR module. Like I said in my previous post you need to verify what you are looking at by knowing the Trim Level or by knowing which options were purchased. There are many C7s that were ordered without Navigation/PDR that only have navigation provided through OnStar. Over the years, people searching for cars that have the PDR have been advised to determine if the car has Nav since the PDR is included with the Nav. Salespeople will say that a car has Navigation when all it has is OnStar Turn by Turn Navigation. This has resulted in some forum members finding out after they purchased a car that it didn't have the PDR because they didn't understand Nav isn't sufficiently defined. The only year the C7 didn't have the PDR as part of its optional Nav unit was 2014.

One way to determine if a car has the optional Nav/PDR is to look in the passenger side glove compartment. On the panel behind the left side of the glove compartment door, you will see an SD card slot. That SD card slot is part of the PDR system, if you see that slot you know the car has both Navigation and the PDR. Here is a photo showing the SD Card Slot behind the Glove Compartment door.

Okay, that makes the determination a lot easier. In the narrative of the car's description it does say that it has "Performance Data & Video Recorder" but I think that it still would be wise to check.

Cheers and stay well,

Don

Correct. The C7 doesn’t even offer a CD player. It uses onboard GPS. Also the 2014’s did not have the PDR available as an option on any trim level.
