Default Tire issue

Heard a clicking while driving through my neighborhood and checked my tire when I got home and saw this. Can’t decide if I ran over something or if this is part of the tire that busted through the tread. Thoughts?

Looks like a screw driver bit that you ran over. looks to be at a pretty shallow angle but should be evaluated by a professional, preferably one you know and trust isn't just interested in selling a new tire.THis would qualify under road hazard insurance, if you have it. Certainly, no good for track work but if no damage to the underlying belts, it may be ok for daily driver at least until you are comfortable replacing the pair on your own timetable. I'd also change it prior to a long road trip as that damaged tread area will become a hot spot at sustained highway speeds.

Is the tire leaking air? if no just pull it out and see how deep it was to decide how much damage it did. It does look like it went in pretty far into the tire body

I’m pretty OCD when it comes to the tires on my car. As said, after evaluation it may be OK, but I would lean towards a replacement just for my own peace of mind.

Looks like a chunk of steel (iron alloy of some sort from the color) you hit and it stuck in the tire. Luckily you weren't out on the road somewhere!

I doubt that hole will be patchable due to the shape of the object making the hole. Based on the remaining tread depth it sort of looks like you were close to needing a new tire anyway. Check with your local Michelin tire stores to see if they are willing to repair.

Replace it. And depending on how your other looks, I'd go ahead and replace that too.

A Good shop will tell you if it can safely be repaired. If so you may want to keep it as a "back up" when you replies all 4 for future use.

I agree with Vetteman Jack, I would take it off the car and carry it to the tire store and get it replace. Those don't look like run flat tires and I am not sure if Nitto even makes a run flat. I do have a set of Nitto's on my 4runner and it is a very good tire at a reasonable price.
