Default High Mileage

I'm looking at some C7s and wondering what is high mileage for a 2014 or 2015? Would 35,000 miles be considered high?

Well, that mileage is considerably higher than my 2014 (6K miles on it), but I wouldn't consider 35K to be excessive. The previous owner(s) drove the car and nothing wrong with that. Now if it was in the 80-90K range, then I would say high miles for a Vette.

Is 35,000 high mileage? Are you serious? Spark plugs last 100,000 miles now. If it’s been cared for that’s NOT high mileage.

I have almost 40,000 miles on my ‘14 that I bought new - but I use it as a car, not as garage art.

If you base mileage going off 10-12k miles per year being normal to below average, that should give you a little bit of an indicator as far as "high mileage" goes. But different people will consider a certain point "high".

I have 18,800 miles on my 2012 and had similar miles on a 2005 and a 2010, so I wondered if most Corvettes are low miles. I know some owners take them on extended trips, or daily commute, etc. while others use them on the weekends. Just wondering.

35 is not high at all. I bet a fair percentage of vettes are mid mi or less for some reason they are afriad or putting miles on them.
Whole idea is to rack up a ton and get your $ worth?

Laughing.... "high mileage for a Vette -

I've had 7 Vettes over the last 31 years - amassing 979,000+ miles on them. Traded my '15 with 99,000+ miles - original clutch... ZERO problems.
Have never had a major problem with even my REALLY high mileage Vettes,,,, 250K+

I agree about driving the car and enjoying it. I drive mine, but I don't go very far these days.

35K miles on an 8 year old car simply isn't considered high mileage... but you knew that. Now, high mileage "for a Vette" is definitely an interesting question. On exotic sports cars where finding a competent service department can be difficult and routine maintenance is expensive (think Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, etc.) 35K miles can be considered high simply because the car might be due for a four-figure major service that might require something excessive like an engine out repair. This is the reason why the value of those cars tends to drop dramatically when the mileage gets over 25K or so... it takes some money to drive and maintain those cars. Now for a Corvette, I've found that many owners treat their vehicles like they are high maintenance, but in reality, they're not. Most people live within 50 miles of several competent service departments that can handle a Corvette, and although the maintenance might be a little more than say a Tahoe or Malibu, it isn't anything that will break the bank.

In short, some people treat their Vettes like they're exotics, but they're not.

If you don't put many miles on your Vette, that's totally fine. It's your car! I have a 2017 with 25K miles on it, so it isn't as if mine is a daily driver either. But if you're shopping for a used car and see something with 35K miles on it, it doesn't mean the vehicle is a service nightmare waiting to happen.

When I sold my C6 after 12 years of ownership it had 85k miles, it was considered high mileage (by Corvette standards) but it ran like new.

The 'Vette market is a unique since there are so many summer only garage queens out there. Thus the used market is full of very low mileage examples in like-new condition.

For the record my 2014 has 38k. I bought it used 3 years ago and in the first year I was on pace to double what the original owner was driving per year. Now working from home I rarely drive it.

Excellent points vbb. I had a Porsche and it was heart-stopping to take it in for service. Many years ago my buddy who was a used car wholesaler gave me some excellent advice when I asked about Porshe vs Vette...he said "who can't fix a Chevy engine".

See my sig. Only engine-related repair I've had to do on my '00 was the clutch when several pressure release levers on the PP wore through their pivot. Since I autocrossed & DE'd the car for 8 years I replaced the consumables (wheel bearings, brakes, rotors, fluids) as needed.

My '14 has only seen the track once, and zero repairs or consumables (other than fluids).

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike
