Default OLM Percentage

I’ve never let the oil life monitor go below 12. Does it actually go down to ‘0’ or does it read ‘service soon’ below 10?

I have never gone off the OLM. Just change your oil every 5k miles or every 6 months or so.

I’ve never seen it on my vettes as I change every spring as I bring out of storage, but my Cadillacs, Camaros and Tahoes have all gone down to 0%.

I change mine when it hits about 5% or so, but yes, it will read 0% eventually.

Yes it does go down to zero and mind you it counts down about 8 percent every month whether or not it is driven to bring it down to zero within 12 months.

Ah ha. That's why I got a reminder on the eleventh month, with just 6000 miles. Had it changed a few days ago.

GM's OLM algorithm works very well in determining when the oil is changed. The change to take into account the time since an oil change came about with the C7s. I suspect that GM added the time period in to force some people to change their oil every year. I know some garage queen owners used to justify not changing oil for years because they didn't put many miles on their cars and after a year the OLM still indicated over 50% oil life.
