I track my car occasionally with a couple other C7 friends. They run Motul DOT5.1 with no issues. I just switched my 17 to it today. It will get changed once a year to keep it fresh.
5.1 should be fine. AFAIK, 3,4 and 5.1 are backwards compatible. 5.9,not so much
If you are worried about mid season or at the end of the year, can't you test it? I'm curious how well the hand held one works vs the lab one.
I've seen some stories about moisture testing, and don't think I'd trust my car and my life to it, without more information.
If someone knows knows of an accurate tester with verified results, I'd like to hear more.
So it looks so far I'm going with this setup for fluids. Again, that car is street driven 85-90% of the time, and the other 10% is track (1 or 2 events per year).
Transmission = Redline ATF D4 Brakes = Still undecided as I want something better than OEM that can be used primarily for the street but is also better at the track. And if I don't run any track events, lasts a while. Clutch = Prestone DOT 4 Diff = Seems like OEM is the choice?
And I switched to the Mobil 1 0W40 Dexos 2 a few years ago when it first came out so I didn't have to swap back n forth.
Use Castrol SRF for both. If you're going to use another fluid, given the number of days you run, you'll need to bleed the brakes every 3 months assuming you run an event every 2 months.
Diff....RedLine 75W90 or use Amsoil
Here's a good rule of thumb regarding brakes: They work......until they don't. Now ask yourself the question.....Is it really worth saving $40 but then in reality spending $100 more since you need to do more bleeds. Buy a good fluid like SRF. AP Racing has some fluids with a higher dry boiling point, but you'll need to bleed it similar to like you will with Motul.

OEM has one. THIS. Just wondering how accurate it is vs lab testing

Yes, that's the problem. I read reviews of various test strips for checking the condition of engine coolant, and didn't find any that impressed me.
For my use, the annual flush with DOT4 seems a good compromise, but i might feel differently if I spent more time on the high speed tracks late in the season.

Maybe a way to get it done is to do a test a d collection of fluid. Before mailing it out, test the sample and compare it with the lab results? What have you heard about the electronic tester?
