Default Mobil 0W40

Mobil 1 0W 40 is the new oil recommended for our cars. The oil cap on the engine only says Mobil 1 0W 40. I see Mobil 1 has a few different oils with the 0W 40 weight. I believe we are supposed to use the one marked ESP. Just wondering with no ESP on the cap if you are not doing The oil change yourself should the dealer or outside shop know To use the ESP if they have it rather than a different Mobil 1 0W 40. D you guys tell the dealer you want ESP.. Just wondering..

I had to request that oil be used (dealer), as it was not the original oil specs for the car. Mine is a 2017 GS.

Your oil cap says Dexos 0w40. The only 0w40 that meets Dexos spec is ESP.

I recently had to have my motor replaced and the service manager told me I was putting the wrong oil in my car when using the 0w40 dexos2 and suggested it could be to blame for the lifter failure. I had to get him the service bulletin myself. Just pointing out that some dealers don’t automatically use that oil.

OP said his cap says Mobil 1 0w40. I was just pointing out the Dexos spec is also written on the cap.

For that matter, the 5w30 caps also specify Dexos.

And perhaps more important you are pointing out how totally clueless some dealers are.

A lot of dealers that sold only a few 2019s didn't know the factory changed the standard oil to 0W40 ESP Dexos2. The parts department wasn't updated and they didn't order supplies of the new oil. At least that is what happened at the dealership I use when I tried to have them use the new oil back in 2018. First, they ordered the wrong 0W40 oil and when I said it was the factory fill for the 2019s I was met by blank stares from two of the parts dept guys. Finally, somebody who knew how to use the computer system better than they did said, here is the GM part number for the oil and so and so dealership has plenty of supply. They sent their parts driver over and picked up the oil.

My experience at the Parts Dept was not nearly as successful. I do my own oil & filter changes on our Corvette. Shortly after delivery of our new `19 Grand Sport (and educating myself on the oil requirement for `19's) I went to the dealership where we bought the Corvette to buy Mobil 1 0W-40 ESP Dexos 2. After much searching they found the correct part number and had a case of 12 in stock.
I used that oil for the initial 500 mile oil change. Fast forward to the next oil change - went back to the same Parts Dept, but this time I got the Parts Manager. He seemed to know exactly what I wanted, but came back with a case of Mobil 1 0W-40 European Formula. I told him that was the wrong oil, but he insisted he was right and "this is what our Service Dept uses in all the new Corvettes". Not even showing him the specs in the Owners Manual would change his mind. I no longer use that Parts Dept.
