the previous owner of my 2017 GS took out the SD card , so I purchased a class 10 Sandisk Extreme 64gb and inserted into the glove box sd slot....its not recognizing it! do I need to format the SD card or a special one needed?
Buy em from Walmart online. They're not available in the WM Supercenter (or they weren't when I bought mine).
They're like $8.00 each. Sales tax extra. USPO freight prepaid to your address.

I'm sorry can this be moved over? I had to format to Fat32...Had to download a free tool to do it..
but it took me less than 2 minutes. I popped it back in and now have 1537 minutes available
The C7 seems to be finicky about it's SD cards. The trick is it needs to be formatted in FAT32; not exFAT. This has to do with the size/allocations of files. MOST SD cards below 32GB will have a default format of FAT32 (what the owners manual states is the maximum size), while the larger ones generally will use exFAT. While you CAN reformat a 64GB into FAT32, it would take a special program. Most PC's will format a card, but only to exFAT. There are some free downloads that can do the correct formatting on larger cards, but I haven't used them. Try going with no larger than a 32GB card fresh out of the box. Not sure if the C7 can actually format a card - never seen that option but it may have appeared in years after my 2016. The U1 C10 spec is great - stick with that especially for video stuff. Also, the contacts for the SD card reader are prone to getting a bit dirty, even if the correct card is used it may still not read it. I've had to put in/take out several times to "wipe" the contacts before it would read. And when it does read for the first time it will take a few seconds for the display to change so be sure to wait.
Make sure the SD card is "unlocked". I quoted the picture above so you can see the slide tab on the left side of the card. Upper position is unlocked and able to record and the lower position is locked to not allow data to be recorded.
Use your preferred internet search tool and search for formatting a large SD card for FAT32. There are several free tools available online that you can use and if you run Windows 10 or 11, you can do it without downloading any extra tools. Here is a great article walking you through the steps. Once formatted just plug it into the car and go. Someone had replied that you can format through the PDR menu. That is incorrect.
The only other trick for you may be connecting the SD card to your PC/laptop/tablet/whatever in order to format it. Depending on your machine, if it doesn't have a slot for the SD card, you may have to buy an adapter. While buying an adapter may seem like more of a hassle, keep in mind if you want to access any videos anywhere other than in the car, you will need the adapter to read from the card again later.
If a Mac user you can reformat using Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Mentioning Mac brings up another issue. The PDR produces MP4 files that have data embedded in them. To read the data you need to use the tools provided by Cosworth such as Cosworth Tool Box (free) or Pi Tools (free and sold). Mac systems can't run the tools as they are only compatible with Windows/PCs.
I recommend you follow the link bglass recommended above, and navigate to the section that says format with PowerShell. Don't download any of these formatting programs because they're shady. And windows 10+ or MacOS will be able to format large fat32 partitions without the need of extra tools.
Adding to what Bill Dearborn said, if you use a Mac you will not be able to hear the sound if you play the video using the default Quicktime app. Best to use a app such as VLC.
I tried a 64Gig sd card that would work for only one recording before the car couldn’t detect it and after reformatting would detect it again and then record one video before it lost it again. Moved to a 32Gig card and that issue was fixed.
Formatting and viewing on a Mac. Sound should be fine on a Mac but the data is not accessible as Bil mentioned, I think you need the toolbox which is a windows application to access.
