Licence Plate Key and Car Alarm
While testing my key into the back by the licence plate I set off the car alarm. My car is set to auto lock so my car is usually locked. Is there a way to open the trunk with the key without setting off the alarm? I'm thinking about the time when my battery dies and I need to use the key to gain entry. Isn't this the purpose of the key anyway? Maybe if the battery is dead the alarm won't activate anyway?

Another "why would you need to do this" issue is that it seems to take a couple of minutes for the alarm to get armed after you lock the car.
So if you lock the car and then immediately go back and open the trunk with the key, sometimes the alarm won't go off. Sometimes.
Any time I test the key, I steel myself for the blasting of the horn, occasionally I get lucky.
