Default 15 and after automatic

How does the 8 speed automatic compare to a Porsche PDK?

how fast are the shifts?

From what I’ve read the trans is not a dual clutch, so assuming slow response on paddles. Correct?

Just bad information there.

The shift speed varies with how you are driving; relaxed if your driving is relaxed, sharp and crisp if you are driving aggressively.

The transmission is not dual clutch, but conventional.

The paddle response is slower than many would prefer, but again varies with your driving. The transmission also learns your driving style and adjusts accordingly.

Does not compare to the Porsche PDK it is more along the lines of a typical slush box.

Yeah, I prefer a manual but thought if similar to PDK performance I’d consider it.

The problem there are about 4 times more automatics than manuals.

I have had cars over the years with automatics, that if you mash the accelerator to the floor it won't shift through the gears if you don't let up a little bit to allow it to shift and then mash it down again. I have a 2019 2LT and was wondering if did the same thing with it, would I have to let up on the accelerator to "make" the transmission shift or will it shift through the gears without letting up on the peddle.

In tack mode and when driven hard it can't be beat if you let it in drive (including the PDK) if you try to use the padles not so much when the computer controls everything it knows what is coming! so up shifts and down shifts are fast
I was used to the A6 and had to change my mind set
when street driven it is just like any other automatic, smooth and mostly un noticed

So I think what you are saying, if I put it in track mode, mash on the accelerator and never let the accelerator off the floor, it will upshift through all 8 gears right?

It is just like a "Two Stroke", if you keep the R's up, the Paddles shift very fast, indeed!

If you lug it, so, sorry, just not going anywhere fast.

Yes.

The transmission will do this in any mode, including Eco.

The shifts are faster than I could ever do with the manual. They slam into the next gear in the blink of an eye as long as you have it to the floor. You never lift as it slams up the gears.

I have the 2014 A6 but the A8s react the same way.

The shifts at full tilt are very quick. As others have said though when not under load the shifts will slow down and can become sluggish. I believe this is to keep the ride smooth. Here is a video of my car shifting with a little tuning. The 3rd to 4th shift seems particularly quick.

I have been using a 18 z06 2LZ automatic as my only car and daily driver since Jan 2018. At full throttle the shifts are great but cruising around town they have always felt a bit “Clunky”. I drove a z06 at Ron Fellows in the Nevada heat and felt the same thing in that car.

I always drive around in D instead of M and rarely use the paddle shifters unless I want to downshift to get some attention from the Corsa Exhaust pulling into a parking lot, etc.

An "Advanced search" across the C7 Forums will generate a gazillion threads related to the A8, along with its problems (some, but not nearly all have had). Check the "sticky" thread at the top of this Forum, too. Or, get an M7 and be done with it altogether.

Bad information? I think not!!

99% of the postings complain about the "shudder". That's not an A8 mechanical issue. It's a problem resulting from GM not using the correct lubricant. They corrected the issue mid-19 and the problem has been solved. Do a little research, the M7 isn't as perfect as the devotees would want you to believe. For the record, my A8 shifts crisply and functions perfectly.
