Default Stingray rear spoiler

Question….Is there a difference between the GM OEM blade spoiler and Z51 spoiler or are they the same? Thinking of ordering one for my 2019 stingray that doesn’t have a spoiler! It definitely needs something and I’ve looked for weeks and can’t make up my mind what kind I want, other than carbon flash in color. Thanks

I believe the “rear blade spoiler” is the same thing if it is GM OEM. The addition is well worth the cost of about $500. The install can be DIY. Taking the fascia off is not difficult and the template provided with the spoiler is very helpful. Drilling into the car required several deep breaths but if you take your time and follow the video out there, not hard! Pro could do this in an hour. Took me 3 because I was being very careful and I’m an idiot.

The OEM spoiler on a non Z51 is that small spoiler integrated above the the brake light. The Z51 spoiler is a larger spoiler that goes across the whole back of the car.

^ The Z51 spoiler could be had as an option on the base Stingray.

So this is considered a spoiler on a base car? If so I’m assuming I can order a regular spoiler and mount across?

Yes , that is what I did, picked up a color matched one from another member here on the boards. There are videos on YouTube showing the install, somewhat involved, the whole rear facia needs to come off and holes drilled in the rear facia for the studs to go through.

Mine is an aftermarket reproduction of the Z51 shown above. They sent the double sided tape w/ it and recommended cleaning before hand w/ alcohol. I did that and installed it w/o any bolts. 2 years ago and it is just like it was the day I installed it.

A Corvette is a thing of beauty and that Z51 spoiler makes it even better.

I think the Z51 OEM spoiler is also referred to as a “Blade” spoiler. I decided to go with the OEM one but some of the aftermarket tape-on ones are identical and cheaper.

Correct. That’s what mine looks like only black. The Z51 spoiler wraps around the rear brake light so you don’t have to remove anything, only add the Z51 spoiler.

thanks for the reply, I did end up going with the oem blade style in carbon flash, was a bolt on, kind of a pain to install by myself but got it done, I’m happy with the look. Thanks

OP:

You should consider removing your front center chin spoiler after adding your OE Z51 rear spoiler.

Note: Examine a "Z51 option" C7 Corvette, the center chin spoiler was omitted by the Corvette Team engineers.

Many thanks,

Ray

That is an interesting observation, not doubting Ray, but do want to ask if anyone has any details, facts or figures to go along with this?
I am certainly not and aerodynamics engineer , but I am not sure I understand the possible connection, any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Unless you plan on running flat-out at B'ville or the like, don't worry about aeros one way or another on any C7.

Anyone have part number for the 2019 base Stingray, GM OE rear blade spoiler in Shadow Gray Metallic? So it sounds like the OE blade spoiler just mounts over the existing 3rd brake light and Z51 spoiler you need to remove the 3rd brake light?

I had the original mini spoiler and when I got the car had the dealer put on the Z-51 spoiler that goes across the whole back lid area. Don't know how to add picture to my post. Tried to drag but would not accept it. Other folks on this forum with more forum tech no how and will probably send you pictures.

Call me crazy but I like the looks of the C7 without a spoiler.
