I am the proud new owner of a 2017 Grand Sport. When I purchased it the owner only gave me one key. I went to my local locksmith and they said sure we can get you a key and program it for half the price as the dealer. They cut the emergency key for me but were unable to program the transponder. They had a fancy machine that plugged into the OBDII port. They ended up not charging me anything and sent me home with the key fob and some instruction from the internet on how to program myself. The instructions were very similar to the ones in the owners manual. Since I only have one key I had to do the long programming method that blows out all the old keys. I followed the manual strictly and after three ten minute cycles it told me to insert remote 1 which I did and pressed the start button. The DIC just went blank and sat there. I waited about 20 minutes and nothing It never told me it was ready for remote 2. I tried to pull the everything start over. Now when I turn the key five times it goes straight to saying ready to program remote 1 but when I put it in and press start button it does nothing. Do I just need to be patient and how long will it take to say ready for remote 2. Right now all of my remotes are blank and I cannot drive the car.
I did some ready on the forum so I will try to answer the obvious questions:
Yes I have verified the new remote is the correct part number and frequency as my original and correct for my year and car (manual no remote start)
Yes the first time I did it I had the remotes right next to the car. I read a forum post that said you had to have the remotes over 10 feet from the car. In my defense the owners manual give no warning about having them away from the car and in fact says "The vehicle must be off and all transmitters to be programmed must be present."
I thought it was a pain to get my extra fob programmed. 4-5 tries and suddenly it worked. I have no idea what I did or didn't do on the initial tries so I recommend you just keep trying.
Thanx Craig. Have it scheduled to tow to the dealer tomorrow. I will try again tonight.
Can you remember what indicators you saw and how long it took to program each remote? I know the initial 10 minute steps but once you insert remote 1 what indicators did you see and how long did it take before it said ready for remote 2??
Thanx all The car is at the dealer. They have diagnosed and say that the BCM is locked in key programming mode and they cannot reset it. Has to be replaced. Going to cost about 1000 and the part is on national backorder. They hope to get one within a couple weeks.
Further update if anyone is still tracking or finds this later.
Dealer received new BCM which was actually a GM refurbished one and it did not work. They tried the old original module, which had been removed from the car for about a week, and it worked. They went ahead and programmed keys. Then they tried to "new" one again and it would not work. Put my original back in and charged $950 labor.
