Curious, has anyone added more tint to their transparent roof and had good/bad results? I might take my car in to get 70% ceramic done on the windshield as its pretty much clear, and was thinking of doing it to the roof too
The guy who tints my cars wouldn’t do the top on any of our cars since they are not glass. I think it was due to heat absorption and possible damage to the top. Someone else with experience may be able to chime in though.
My painter added tinted clear to my top when he painted the side rails to help even out the paint lines.. Happy with the results.
Love the painted strip that completes the roofline profile (been planning to do it myself at some point).
The painted tint is an interesting take on controlling sun heat.
Which got me thinking about film-tinting or paint-tinting when peeling or fading occurs. When addressing those issues in the future, scraping away the old tint or applying paint remover could scratch up the surface. Thoughts?

I'm not sure about the long term impact, however going into the project, it was pretty much a "one and done" decision. My painter told me he wanted to smooth out the paint lines from painting the roof rails and decided to spray a lightly tinted clear over the transparent section. I only run the clear roof about 3 months per year during the Florida winter when the sun isn't that high in the sky as most of the time I run the painted top with my custom stripe. I like the look better plus I like the enclosed cockpit feel and sound of the solid, quilted roof liner. I still have my C5 vert to drive when I want a true to open air drive.
As a professional window tinter, you do not want to install window film on any lexan or polycarbonate panel.
during the whole life of polycarbonate or lexan, it releases a gas thoroughout its lifespan and by applying the windkw film, it essentially traps it and it will then bubble, possibly causing dealmination of the polycarbonate or lexan which would ruin it completely.

Thanks for this tip! Would you have a guess on the downside, if any, of tint-painting the exposed outer surface?

I can't forsee any negative issues to painting the sides like posted above. The only issue I see is that once it's sprayed, it's pretty permanent and non reverse able.
if that's what you're looking for, i would say that's going to be your best bet.

I’m getting my transparent top covered with PPF. I assume that’s the same scenario? I hope not thoughts? Also are we talking about tinting the inside or the outside just curious. The PPF obviously would be on the outside

"when peeling or fading occurs" I cannot yet speak to looooong term clear roof longevity with my C7, but as of today the one on my C5 hasn't done either... in 20 years.
